Circumcision And Female Genital Mutilation

Is there any reason to do this anymore?
Articles like this make me sick http://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/world/doctor-accused-of-genital-mutilation-on-girls/ar-BBzOUEy?ocid=spartanntp.
Especially when people have to be politically correct by stating A Detroit area physician faces federal charges for allegedly performing female genital mutilation on multiple 6- to 7-year-old girls as part of a religious and cultural practice

There is no reason to do this to children and babies. It is child abuse.

FGM is a cultural practice, it is and has been practiced in extremist sects of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and other religions.
It is tied to religion closely, but is more of a cultural tradition than a religious one.
This doctor is from India, and area that is 88% Hindu and around 10% Muslim.
Your assumption is yours to make, but there's no reason journalists should be making those kind of assumptions.
If they did and you didn't agree you would be calling it fake news.

I'm glad my parents chose to have me circumcised, but that has absolutely nothing to do with what this article is about.
  • I know it's a cultural practice.
The journalist to be thorough should have reported the culture and religion.
Instead it was written as PC so as not to offend.

It was reported that she is Gujarati, the victims may be from different religions, obscure sects, they may be completely unknown, and they probably want to protect the privacy and dignity of the children that suffered this shitty fate.

Admit it, you made an assumption that it was Islamic and they deliberately left that out, now you are trying to walk it back.

You could be right, but it's a shitty assumption, not particularly groovy, IMO.

But if your opinion is that it's abuse no matter which religion (and I'd agree), the particular religion is a moot point. Religion didn't commit the crime. Some whack-job committed the crime based on her whack-job interpretation of whatever religion it is.

It's a practiced condoned by a whack-job doctor and some whack-job parents because they've misinterpreted their religion. Not all doctors/parents do this.

I hope she is indicted and convicted on federal criminal charges of sexual assault, and put on a sex registrysentenced to life in prison. Fucking barbarism. And I thought those cops in Bumfuck, SD doing forced catheterizations were cruel and deviant.

Only Christian-Judeo values are beyond reproach? Got it. In an email today.

    WHITE HOUSE MEMO
This is a season of hope for millions of Americans. This week, Jewish families celebrate Passover and retell the story of God’s deliverance of the Jewish people. This Easter Sunday, Christians celebrate the resurrection of Christ and the promise of eternal salvation. America is a Nation of believers. As long as we have faith in each other, and trust in God, we will succeed!

so Canada doesn't cut the foreskin off baby boys? The US sure does. why isnt there the same outrage against ALL genital mutilation? hmm?

Well, there are many groups and individuals that are outraged by infant male circumcision, too, though one can argue they aren't really comparable. The aim of FGM is to impede female sexual function and often causes permanent damage to other body systems like the urinary tract. Male circumcision has neither the same goals nor the same outcomes.

(and, I imagine, FGM causes permanent non-physical damage as well...all connected)
