I don't know either, however I get the feeling of what appears to a rather simple missile launch on a distant airbase is going to lead to something far more disastrous than we could ever imagine. It's a brutal world we live where it's so very hard to live in........

The fact of the matter is that Syrian civilians have/are dying by the hundreds of thousands, wether we bomb their airfields or Russian forces bomb them or Assad gases them they are the victims and the world is sitting by watching , and here we are 2017 and nothing is being done about it ! This administration putting on a sympathy show is pathetic bafoon had the nerve to say he was shocked by images of kids chocking to death yet his administration has closed its doors to them is a god damn shame fuck you orange bafoon!

There's no question help is necessary. Exactly what that help is? I'm not sure.
Do we rescue every Syrian by pulling them from Syria and relocating them to a more peaceful place? Or do we help Syrians in Syria? I don't know.
And I'm waiting to see what this tactic results in: grace's concern is similar to mine. The missile strike seems like a Jenga move that has the structure wobbling (does it settle or does it come tumbling down)?

I'm reading Pat Frank's Alas Babylon. Last night's chapter runs a discomforting parallel to what you mention here, g. Great reading just before hitting the pillow. NOT!

You guys are right on track here. Syria is exactly what prompted my thought in the first place. Of course, it extends far beyond that one event to the GWC- Great Worldwide Clusterfvck.
So not knowing much at all is about all I know. I don't even know how to discuss politics any more. A feeling of apathetic ennui has settled into my old bones. It's now up to the young to carry on.

It all feels like uncharted territory with a complete disregard for facts and consequences. That's how I feel about it today & it's not a good feeling.

Not sure it's about age or generation, B. More like mindset - and that exhaustion of trying to make sense of what IS going on...what we see, hear, take in. I'm actually ok knowing I know shit about a shitload of things.
And I'm ok distancing myself from any and all clusterfucks when needed, whether they be political, work-related, personal, etc. I'd rather swim than sink in those (metaphorical) shark-infested waters.
To the original question, I think some do know what's going on but are mum.
Then again, I'm watching an episode of Homeland, so go figure

I totally loved what Ed said at the RRHOF about "Let's not be the generation to not do anything..." he was talking about global warming, but I think the same could be applied to hate crimes, war, injustice, pollution, starvation, homophobia, sexism, and bad breath in dogs.

Feels a little bit like Mr. Kunstler is reading my mind:
"There are times in the course of events when a society cannot tell what the fuck is going on, or what to do about it, and this is one of those moments in history here in the USA. The quandaries of life on the home front — how to make a living, how to care for ourselves and loved ones — get shoved aside by misadventures in foreign lands with their own quandaries. One delusion leads to another until you enter a zero gravity of the mind. Case in point du jour: Syria."

That's something that has trickled down: trump's style of management and policy that is based on chaos and impulsivity. And people say the government is ineffective!
