About the Curtis Scholarship
The Curtis Scholarship, conceived and funded by Global Citizen Ambassador and Pearl Jam manager Kelly Curtis, is an annual award to mentor and support Curtis Scholars. The Curtis Scholarship seeks to create, support, and equip a network of youth advocates and community leaders committed to local and global action.
2017 Curtis Scholars
The 2017 Curtis Scholarship is a year long mentorship program to support youth leaders who embody the values of global citizenship.
Curtis Scholars will be invited to join an a 10 day experiential learning trip through South Africa and the Global Citizen Festival in NYC.
Joined by members of the Global Citizen staff, the Curtis Scholars will tour through South Africa experiencing cultural sites and development programs focused on poverty alleviation and Global Citizen's issue areas.
Our mission is to empower people of color and underrepresented minorities through mentorship and travel; and to foster cultural awareness and global citizenship.

Application Requirements
Applicants can choose between submitting 2-3 minute videos or 500-700 word written responses to the two questions in the application.
Applicants must submit a recommendation letter from a teacher/professor, school administrator, community leader, or colleague to be considered for the Curtis Scholarship

Learning Trip Includes
Monthly mentorship opportunities and advocacy toolkits
Round trip airfare to South Africa (July 28- August 6) and New York (September 20-24)
Global Citizen-led Orientation
All trip-related meals
Lodging and transportation
Other out-of-pocket expenses (at the GC’s discretion)
Passport fees and all travel costs associated with this trip
Eligibility Criteria
Ages 16-20 (by time of application)
U.S. Citizens
Limited past overseas travel
Family household income of under $85,000
Those from minority and underrepresented communities are strongly encouraged to apply.

2017 Global Citizen Curtis Scholars Announced

We are psyched to announce the 2017 Global Citizen Curtis Scholars, founded by Pearl Jam's manager and funded by the band's Vitalogy Foundation. This scholarship program is open to U.S. citizens between 16 and 20 years old from traditionally underrepresented communities.
Global Citizen reviewed hundreds of winners and selected six 2017 Curtis Scholars from Arizona, North Carolina, Texas, Louisiana, Pennsylvania and New York. This 2017 Curtis Scholarship video highlights them being selected.
The Curtis Global scholars will now begin their year-long mentorship program as part of a network of youth advocates and community leaders committed to local and global action. They will also join Global Citizen advocacy team members on a ten-day experiential learning trip through South Africa, experiencing development programs focused on poverty alleviation.
Pearl Jam’s manager Kelly Curtis said of the scholarships, "It’s an honor to be able to help pave the way for the next generation of activists, leaders and global citizens who are committed to making the world a better place.”

2019 Global Citizen Scholars Announced
We’re excited to introduce the 2019 Global Citizen Curtis Scholars!
Global Citizen reviewed hundreds of applicants and selected eight future leaders to participate in a year-long mentorship program that provides education, resources, and leadership tools to alleviate poverty around the world.
This year’s Curtis Scholars will join Global Citizen advocacy team members on a ten-day learning trip to South Africa and a one-day advocacy trip to New York City for Global Citizen Week.
