  • Trumps base did not win him the election 8 months ago. Rather, it was his energized base + disaffected Obama supporters, bitter Bernie Bros and independents (with Russian collusion) combined to give him a narrow victory. That 35%-38%, of his core base, will not win him a re-election or give him a mandate. Unless of course everyone else stays home. Not happening. 2,864,974 more voted for Hillary but you know, the Electoral College.
fair enough. I wasn't concentrating on just his base when replying. Because that's not all that will vote for him. There will be those that are ok with his presidency, those that always vote R no matter what, those that want continuity and stability in the white house, especially depending on what wars the US is engaged in at the time, and especially who the dem candidate is.

that is a whole lot of variables.

Facebook sold political ads to Russian company during 2016 election.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/facebook-says-it-sold-political-ads-to-russian-company-during-2016-election/2017/09/06/32f01fd2-931e-11e7-89fa-bb822a46da5b_story.html?utm_term=.c4b3c612a974&wpisrc=al_alert-COMBO-politics%2Bnation&wpmk=1

"Representatives of Facebook told congressional investigators Wednesday that it has discovered it sold ads during the U.S. presidential election to a shadowy Russian company seeking to target voters, according to several people familiar with the company’s findings.

Facebook officials reported that they traced the ad sales, totaling $100,000, to a Russian “troll farm” with a history of pushing pro-Kremlin propaganda, these people said.

A small portion of the ads, which began in the summer of 2015, directly named Republican nominee Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton, the people said. Most of the ads focused on pumping politically divisive issues such as gun rights and immigration fears, as well as gay rights and racial discrimination.

The acknowledgment by Facebook comes as congressional investigators and special counsel Robert Mueller are probing Russian interference in the U.S. election, including allegations that the Kremlin may have coordinated with the Trump campaign.

The U.S. intelligence community concluded in January that Russia had interfered in the U.S. election to help elect Trump, including by using paid social media trolls to spread fake news intended to influence public opinion........

    ......

Facebook discovered the Russian connection as part of an investigation that began this spring looking at purchasers of politically-motivated ads, according to people familiar with the inquiry. It found that 3,300 ads had digital footprints that led to the Russian company.

Facebook teams then discovered 470 suspicious and likely fraudulent Facebook accounts and pages that it believes operated out of Russia, had links to the company and were involved in promoting the ads.

A Facebook official said “there is evidence that some of the accounts are linked to a troll farm in St. Petersburg, referred to as the Internet Research Agency, though we have no way to independently confirm.” The official declined to release any of the ads it traced to Russian companies or entities.

“Our data policy and federal law limit our ability to share user data and content, so we won’t be releasing any ads,” the official said. The official added that the ads “were directed at people on Facebook who had expressed interest in subjects explored on those pages, such as LGBT community, black social issues, the Second Amendment, and immigration.”

It may be humiliating for the party, but unfortunately it isn't humiliating for the grass roots or the voters.  There's no stopping them.
if he is forced to testify under oath about it, he will most certainly lie, and then they may have no choice.
Dude...you would be SHOCKED to see how these people think.  Go on to Breitbart and read the comments in an article.  They refuse to believe anything that doesn't fit precisely into their world view.  The grip on reality is gone...not even tenuous anymore.  Anything that moves against heir bias is 'fake news', 'CNN lies", etc.  It's really, literally insane.  So long as he goes after immigrants, they will stay with him.  Abortion, taxes, free market, foreign power collusion etc. none of the traditional pillars of Republicanism matter one iota.
I know. I was talking about congressional leaders, not his base.
They are spineless.  I wouldn't trust them for a minute to do the right thing.

I can say from experience that they are fucking delusional over there.
Yesterday was interesting though.  BB published a critical article on DJT, about his tweet saying that if Congress didn't do something to save DACA, he would "revisit it".  They were incensed that anyone would not just deport them straight out.  Many of the posters said this was the last straw and they would not vote for him if he saved DACA.

that is a whole lot of variables.

You left out the people who refused to vote for a woman for President. Some would 'fess up to this mental impediment, but there are still a large group of people who could vote for a Black (Male) for President over a Any Color Female for President. KInda like how Black Men were given the right to vote before Women. I really hadn't factored that in until watching news shows that are Conservative (helps to understand what others are thinking) and heard it quite a few times. And the third party throw away vote too.

And eloquence isn't pretty words. It's well thought out opinion presented in an orderly and understandable manner. I tend to like my Presidents to have at least as good a vocabulary as me. Or at least be entertaining when they screw up the big words (strategery - W) Obama had fantastic ideas, IMHO, and was able to speak of them in a passionate and eloquent manner. He had hoped to change Washington (which was naive, but at least it was in the good way). He had no idea how much hate he would face. The people (future Trump voters) whose heads exploded every time they saw a black man with the Presidential Seal near him. People who would call him the N word and be proud. Idiots.

I was always proud to have him as my President though. Trump speaks in incomplete hyperbolic sentences. I find it unacceptable that he has exhausted his vocabulary before his first year (shivers) ends. Very, very unacceptable in a very, very short amount of time, as you all know and believe me record breaking bigly.  I still can't put the P word and the T word together. It should be an oxymoron.

And the pee tape will never see the light of day.

Do you think Mueller might be connecting the dots to say, Russian purchased Facebook accounts, phone/email records between Trump campaign strategists, RNC and trump campaign officials, districts those Facebook adds appeared and locations, predominately, of voters Facebook accounts and money, wire, bank transfers amongst trump's 600 corporations? Do you think? I bet JC does. He likes connecting dots. 7Xs.

Trump voters - These are the people who called the poor woman who was killed in Charlottesville  a whore and disgrace for being childless at her age and not fulfilling her only reason for being alive. Oh and she was a fat whore who deserved to die.

These are the disgusting things that Trump's base say when they are in their little worlds commenting to each other. And are starting to feel emboldened to present to more people.

People like Sessions who looked like he'd gotten a brand new toy yesterday when he got to say that those horrible illegal aliens who came here as kids had to leave. If you are under 16, you are not able to give consent, so you should not be penalized for being brought by your parents. What the hell were they supposed to do. Trump had no reason to do this - there was no lawsuit filed - only the threat of a lawsuit. By a small minority of the state attorney's general. He wanted this and Sessions newly found tape from a 2015 Breitbart interview saying he agreed with the law in 1924 that allowed white Eastern European immigrants only because of the 'build up' of those other people is proof that our AG is a bigot, at best.

Russians Flock to Trump Properties to Give Birth to U.S. Citizens http://thebea.st/2gIxhyj?source=twitter&via=mobile via @thedailybeast

While Trump rails against U.S.-born children of undocumented immigrants, his Florida properties have become a playground for birth tourists from Russia’s upper crust. The Daily Beast has discovered several companies are advertising rentals in Trump properties to expectant Russian parents. While the Trump Organization does not directly profit from subleases of privately owned condos, it does benefit from Russian patronage of the nearby Trump International Beach Resort. (The Trump Organization did not return requests comment.)

Historically, software companies have sold software as their product. Google and Facebook changed that: with Google and Facebook, your time and attention is the product. The buyers are the advertisers who bid on your attention, based on the massive dataset of attributes and demographics of your life, which Google and Facebook so kindly collect, clean, package, and deliver (and bill the attention-seekers for the privilege). Keep in mind this isn't just products that data-buyers are convincing you to buy - it's also ideas. Fictitious news blindly accepted by a large chunk of the population, paid for by legitimate organizations, but also by untraceable shell corporations with nefarious agendas. This is how Google and Facebook profit. Recently, Facebook made this goal more transparent, by defaulting your 'News Feed' to 'Top Stories', rather than 'Newest First'. What defines 'Top'? Relevance. What defines 'Relevance'? Correlation between what you like (based on what Facebook knows about you), and who pays most to present to you.

I do use Facebook, because I have friends from around the world I'd like to keep in touch with, but I do so with the awareness that I am effectively being sold, and I am effectively being surveilled. The news link on my Facebook Wall is only there because someone paid for it to be brought to my attention, alongside the products being shown to me.

I'm also aware that once something's on the internet, it remains on the internet, and if regulations were to change and, say, a state of emergency were declared so that all information became accessible to a government - friend or not, private message or not, pseudonym or not - that data could become known by a government.

I'm not proposing wearing tin foil hats day-to-day - in fact, I know data collection can actually be beneficial so that you're inundated with the things that are truly interesting to you (rather than benign and obtrusive) - but the reality is that Facebook and Google are breeding grounds for identity theft and undue influence, and we should all proceed with extreme caution.

Hey, in your opinion, was the Chiefs' victory last night more unlikely than Donnybrook's presidential victory?
