#HolocaustRemembranceDay

This Twitter account lists people who were refused entry into the US during the Holocaust, and it seems to be viewed more today because it is the Holocaust Remembrance Day and because of the #MuslimBan Executive Order.

    On the turning away
    From the pale and downtrodden
    And the words they say
    Which we won't understand
    "Don't accept that what's happening
Is just a case of others' suffering
Or you'll find that you're joining in
    The turning away"

I don't know the histories of those in the link, so randomly looked up one name..."last known location: Auschwitz". Haunting and so fucking sad.

*edit for damned emotions - fraternal grandmother died at Theriesenstadt; my grandfather lived through that camp, with his wife to her death, to see freedom and actually see his son, my dad, for a short time.

My father was granted entry to the US at 14/15. Fought in WWII in exchange for an education and citizenship. I can't imagine if he'd been turned away.

Well...I wouldn't even be here to imagine anything, had he been turned away.
