Stupid last.fm questions

Hi all,
Sorry if this is in the wrong place or if it's been discussed before.
I was on last.fm for the first time in ages looking up some indie/local bands and discovered that tracks can now only be played if they are available via Spotify or YouTube... And that it's been this way for a long time.
Not looking to Scrobble my own stuff, but rather stream really obscure songs that were once Scrobbled on the service by other listeners.
I already have Spotify, and to my understanding there is no way to get back the "old" last.fm (I've tried going through archive.org, for example).
Any hints/suggestions?
Not looking to do anything illegal.
Thx.
