    my Irish family and your Italian family seemed to have assimilated pretty well despite the American public at the time hating their guts... guess what, the Latino immigrants will make it through just fine like our folks did brother

    Clearly there's an historical ignorance at work with a few select members here, regarding the way Eastern and Western European immigrants (non Anglos) were treated upon their first generation after arrival. This was true of both waves of immigration. Although this is generally attributed to the Irish, the phrase NINA (No Irish need apply) also applied to the Italians. And you're right.. the Mexicans are no different. They will assimilate. They always have and always will. It's why we have a melting pot culture.
