Listen.. that was all very interesting and speculative by nature, but it's really stretches the bounds of reality. Half of the analysis says there may not have been a FISA warrant because they were tapping the Russian banks. The other half of the analysis assumes there was a FISA warrant, as he points to the Guardian as validation (which focused on FISA). Which is it? It can't be both and the assessment be correct.

Second, if they collected the data/metadata/ because the NSA was really tapping the Russian banks and therefore didn't need the FISA warrant (I'm not even sure that's legally true), then it means there really was a server connected to Russia in Trump Tower, which Trump denied being true.

Of course it's speculative. Everything anybody has written or reported has been speculative. It is actually amazing how little anybody really knows both on the Russia angle and/or the Spying angle. Was there even a FISA request? I used to think there was for sure but now I don't know. The New York Times on January 20th specifically mentioned "Wiretapped Data" in their headline and now they are refuting themselves. The article above at least discusses the NSA collection aspect to it all where in theory the data already pre-existed and then was mined/shared either legitimately or illegitimately. The key point is how the late stage Loretta Lynch rule change opened up this data to a wider range of agencies then normally would be possible. I'm also with you on the legalities though...this gets into areas that none of us are experts on. Except for Halifax of course.
