posting a video and glad i met so many americans that are so friendly and cool...

this is copy paste the guy post at facebook

"So this just happened...
Sophia and I were in line at the market, and naturally, speaking Greek. Out of nowhere this lady behind us decides to give us a modern history lesson and tells us, "Speak F*@king English, this is America." Furthermore, she demonstrated her well-versed use of the English language by using every swear word to describe us and how we don't belong here. Imagine if we were with our kids.
Huge props to the manager for kicking her xenophobic, racist ass out. I only caught the tail-end on video, but you'll get the point.
Seriously. This. Just. Happened. It's 2017".

Ridiculous. I would hate to travel to another country and get yelled at for speaking in English.

Yet another example of an American whose life is so filled with fear, hate, and ignorance that she has to take it out on an innocent.

Glad not all Americans behave like that.

Unfortunately there are a lot of Americans who think like that.
Americans who are xenophobes, racists, homophobes, anti-semites, white supremacists, etc etc.

And a surprisingly some claim to be Pearl Jam fans as well

But they have nothing to do with how Trump got elected, that happened because people are finally waking up. Just ask the Professor from Canada, he has a direct line to the heart and mind of America!

America is not the only place this exists folks... nationalism & xenophobia is everywhere and there seems to be a surge right now...

America is the greatest experiment in world history... we have never seen such a large convergence and co-mingling of various cultures and ethnic backgrounds... there are always going to be people like the one in the video above, in every country on the planet, but they are in the minority... they just stick out because they are assholes

I would have politely asked the lady if she spoke Native American? No? Go back to where you came from then. I bet that would shut her dumb ass up

This is 100% true. I had a similar experience when I was visiting Austria. An older couple was pissed that I attempted to communicate to them in English and scolded me in broken English on how when you travel it's respectful to be fluent in the language you are visiting....there's assholes everywhere. Luckily they are few and far between.

Yeah I noticed that in Quebec: younger people have no problem talking English to me but some of the older folks insist on French. And my french is baaaaad lol. Are there any French speakers in Winnipeg or do they mostly stay in Quebec?

a whole load of French folks in Winnipeg. one of our oldest (if not THE oldest) neighbourhoods is all French. But we don't have, to my experience, the same linquistic snobbery as I've heard exists in rural Quebec. Montreal is amazing to visit. Not one French snob amongst them!

    It's quite scary.
I grew up thinking the nuclear age and the lessons we learned from the world wars would prevent a true world war from happening again.
Now I wonder if it is possible.

That may not be coming from the same place as the jerk in the op ("speak German or go back to where you came from"). Sometimes in others countries, people resent American arrogance, and this is one form of arrogance where we assume people know English and should bend to our language. I think they appreciate Americans giving it a try to speak in the country's language. I could also be wrong.

I know that plenty of French people have a real disdain of those who speak English in France. Many of them claim that if people at least put in an effort, they feel okay about it.... but from what I learned from getting to know actual French people very well, they are just saying that. In truth, they tend to think of English speakers, especially Americans, as inferior to them in most ways...... Of course, many French people tend to think of all other nationalities as inferior to them in most ways, lol (of course, Americans tend to think along the same lines about themselves... My theory is that this long run 'dislike' that the French and Americans share for one another is a result of them having this quality in common (no offense to either the French of Americans... but come on, we all know that both are highly nationalistic and rather arrogant about their own ways, generally speaking).

I like how Eddie often makes an effort and talks the language of the country PJ is visiting on the tours, it's very polite. :) (But off course people should feel free to talk in any language they prefer anywhere it shouldn't be an issue.)
