Big ass stadium shows..ive never heard a bad sounding pj show at any type of venue and I've seen the band so many times I could really care less where my seats are. If they are very bad I usually respectfully walk around and make friends in better areas.

    Soldier Field in '17!!!

Being at all 3 Wrigley shows, I never want to look at weather forecast again. lol

I know it won't happen, but maybe the guys can stick to the Riv or Aragon.

We have a GREAT venue here in Columbus that holds around 6,000 people for outdoor shows.
The venue also has an indoor "club" that uses the same stage,
and they have an INCREDIBLE sound system!!
It's a little too small for a PJ show...
but have seen My Morning Jacket, Beck, Band Of Horses, The National,
Modest Mouse, The Black Crowes, The Killers, Flaming Lips, Jane's Addiction, Wilco and many other groups there!!

Let's skip the mid-October show. :teeth chattering: MM was a rather chilly show! However, it was a GREAT show and they do have an incredible sound system. EL is on my list of venues to return to.

While I admit that I screen watched most of the time despite being mid field at Wrigley, I wouldn't trade that show for anything in the world. A BIG thanks to friends who upgraded my tickets so that my husband and I could be where we were. (We could have done without the puker, though.) The weather finally cooperated right before the show and it was a fabulous night!

I have had great tickets at places- up front, rail and all that. I have had tickets where we could have gone Sistine on the ceilings. Still, sound is everything to me and I guess I would prefer an awesome sound rather than beads of sweat flying onto me.
    AGREED...
Modest Mouse was a COLD show!!!
I'd choose an outdoor show over an arena any day...
Red Rocks, The Gorge, Alpine Valley, even Deer Creek in Indianapolis,
nothing beats GREAT music under the stars!!

Lol Park West is such an odd venue. I wasn't living here when they played Metro or the Vic. Maybe they could just randomly show up at Shubas one night.

Anyhoo, not to take away from the thread, but yeah, I prefer anything indoors.

Europeans & South Americans have stadium shows down to a science. Arenas work best in Canada and the States.

Arenas for sure. Stadiums hold lots of people, but sound and sightlines will always be sub-optimal.

I'm not a stadium show fan for many of the reasons already listed, but I haven't been to an amphitheater type show I haven't enjoyed. Yeah, weather can always be iffy, but it's so awesome to be outside in the fresh air. Maybe it's because I live in a state where you don't really want to do much of anything outside for 4 months except ski or snowshoe! When you can just lay down a blanket and sit enjoying the company of friends before the show starts; good times. It's also a lot easier to have kids with at outdoor shows because there is more ability to move around.

I definitely agree with this unless you do a smaller outdoor venue in North America or some of the selected few bigger one's mentioned; Red Rocks, Gorge, Alpine).
    It's a hopeless situation...

I couldn't believe how early people were tailgating there in April.

    It was impressive.

If you include the UK as part of Europe Id disagree, I hate the stadium shows here, they tend to feature in soulless new football stadiums with awful acoustics, however we have some great stadium sized shows held at various open parks which are fantastic and dont have that restricted sound echo bouncing around.
Arena shows are better as most of the UK arenas have been refurbed recently but id take a PJ show anywhere here.

  • i honestly hate both. pearl jam is only band that i will go see in an arena/stadium. i'd rather be in a club with 1000 or less people. huge shows are just such a drag. luckily i'm usually pretty close for pj. call me a snob but if i can't actually SEE the band and i mean like their fingers on the fretboard, then i'd rather not even be there. i can watch it on youtube haha
but to answer the original question: arena. it's smaller

considering i will never see neil young or pearl jam or u2 in a club and also i will never see jason isbell in a stadium i would say it is what it is and i personally never let the any venue determine whether i go to a show or not.
i am done with up-close expensive arena tickets. back of the venue for me in the cheap seats. i can see more shows that way :)
....and while i babble on...i must say one of PJ's most noblest things they do is not tier their tickets prices

    for the OP...an arena. x 10
