If you can't play Fenway then play the Garden. It would be easier to vacate than the parking hell that is Great Woods/Tweeter/Comcast Center!!

Ask Theo nicely and I'm sure he will let you play in his backyard. :)

Fenway would be cool, but I would hate it if they went to the garden. It's the only venue that has the ability to make Pearl Jam sound bad. Great Woods, on the other hand, is perfect minus the curfew. Just go to pay lot, it's totally worth it.

I've seen them at the Garden though - I liked it - I like a place in the middle of a city where you don't have to bring a car.

Fenway sucks for concerts. Everyone gets all hyped about seeing a show there until they realize how friggin far away their seats are from the stage.
And the curfew and noise restrictions will be worse at Fenway than at GreatTweeterComcastCenterWoods.
    This weekend we rock Portland

What he said. Fenway for concerts is only good for "shock" value. I saw DMB there in 2006. Nothing special.

they should just play the comcast center ang go with no opening band or start the show 30-45 minutes earlier. the sound in the garden is horrible.
pay 30 bucks park across the street, no cops, no hassle, out in 5 minutes

I believe Theo attempted to get PJ into Fenway in 2006, but was rebuffed by Sox management because of fears of damaging the field/stadium. I can't remember if this was fueled by silly roskilde-inspired paranoia about the fans...or due to legitimate concerns about the field being stomped and trampled by a crowd that likes to jump up and down.

Regardless, I agree that Fenway is not an ideal place to watch a concert because of the dearth of decent seats. I prefer the Garden, warts and all, mostly because of its location in Boston - which means no driving is required. In terms of pure, in-the-seat enjoyment, I also think Mansfield is pretty nice. Plus, it's always fun to do some tailgating, even if the cops and young drunks are a pain. But the hassles do get old.

As a Sox fan who has been to Fenway 20 times, it would definitely not be a good idea. Most of the seats are hard, small, and have terrible sight lines. As much as I always hated the new Garden, those two shows in '06 were incredible. PJ took a huge arena, and made it feel incredibly warm and small.

Ed made the same reference to moving to Fenway at the end of Great Woods 3, 2003. Plus there was this nugget in a pre-Vote For Change Globe article in 2004:

As for their own future, regardless of who wins the election, Pearl Jam hopes to try to play Fenway Park next summer. Vedder and Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein are friends, and Pearl Jam wants to be the next in line after Springsteen and Jimmy Buffett to headline Fenway. "I think that would be our ultimate goal," says Vedder. "And if they can handle Jimmy Buffett fans there, then I'm sure they can handle ours."

    And there's this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QN52ibaFmw8

However, I think if it was going to happen this would have been the year. Fenway downgraded to one Neil Diamond show and it would have been set up perfectly for a PJ mini-tour with the Sox no returning from June 25 through July 7. And, while the sound quality at the Springsteen shows I saw at Fenway wasn't great, it still would be pretty cool. Especially to get seats down on the field by the stage. Oh well, probably never happen. Just come back to the Garden, or wait until we replicate Great Woods in New Hampshire without the Beer Gestapo.

It seems like every year Ed says he wants to play Fenway, I wouldn't get your hopes up. I actually think the garden would be better.

yeh why play in some venue MILES away from boston, only people can drive to that venue so therefore its a fucking mess at the end. Much better public transport into Boston and the show will actually be a Boston show not a mansfield one.

I believe in Great Woods 1 in '03 he said they were going to play the Garden next time and that was true in '06.
