•In April, Buffalo Trace Distillery (Sazerac) will release Old Rip Van Winkle 25-year-old, the most aged expression of the brand ever bottled. Only 710 bottles will be available. It’s at 50% abv and made from 11 barrels of Bourbon made at Stitzel-Weller distillery in 1989. Whisky Advocate has the full story.0 -
I am petioning for a show in West Virginia, however I would prefer Charleston. The Charleston Civic Center is undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation and should be quite the place once complete.tempo_n_groove said:
@BRAIN0FJAY are you still petitioning for Morgantown to get a show?
Here's a link to the 25-year Old Rip. Retails for the very affordable $1800.

How the hell can you have a spirit 2 years older than the 23 that retails for $169 and justify another 1000% more for a bottle?
My only guess is to get rid of re-sellers but this will be like the Black Pearl Louis and just go for astrological amounts of money.0 -
I'll take that lovely bottle of Louis you have on your bar tempo over pappy any day.0

The Louis, if you ever have the chance, do it. Amazing cognac. They made a smaller bottle if you are interested.DavidD said:I'll take that lovely bottle of Louis you have on your bar tempo over pappy any day.

I love the Louis mainly for the fact that it helped me pay off a good chunk of my undergrad student loan. After I got out of school, I spent a summer bartending at a restaurant in Vancouver. There was one dude who would come in almost everyday, drink champagne with whoever would sit with him, and then finish it off with a few rounds of Louis (at $175 an ounce!). His bar tab was typically between $1000-5000 and he would tip 15-20%! It was the most outrageous thing I've ever witnessed, and really made me realize that if I ever got that rich, I'd find positive things to do with my money like giving to charities, something that could improve the lives of others. But I sure was thankful for those tips.1992-07-21 Vancouver

That is a GREAT story! That's 200-1000 a tip! Holy smokes. He could have just bought a bottle and paid a corking fee and still be ahead!mwplum said:I love the Louis mainly for the fact that it helped me pay off a good chunk of my undergrad student loan. Louis is an amazing cognac but I haven't tried them all, lol. I can care less for Courvoisier though.buck502000 said:Shit, we should just have a best of every kind of spirit thread

What would a starter liquor cabinet kit be made up of?0
-
You need to hide the good stuff from the hacks. You don't want someone mixing your good bourbon with a damn coke.buck502000 said:What would a starter liquor cabinet kit be made up of?
That's first thing!0 -
So in my cabinet I'd have seagrams 7, 4 roses small batch, jack daniels honey, kettle one, remy vsop, tullamore dew single, bacardi and bombay saphire.
That is for the masses.0 -
yeah, that goes up high in the backtempo_n_groove said:

Secondly, I'd say have a few common mixers. Vermouth, triple sec, grenadine, & bitters are good starters.Star Lake 00 / Pittsburgh 03 / State College 03 / Bristow 03 / Cleveland 06 / Camden II 06 / DC 08 / Pittsburgh 13 / Baltimore 13 / Charlottesville 13 / Cincinnati 14 / St. Paul 14 / Hampton 16 / Wrigley I 16 / Wrigley II 16 / Baltimore 20 / Camden 22 / Baltimore 24 / Raleigh I 25 / Raleigh II 25 / Pittsburgh I 250 -

I tell my friends that any thing that is on the back bar is fair game. Stay out of my liquor cabinet.tempo_n_groove said:So in my cabinet I'd have seagrams 7, 4 roses small batch, jack daniels honey, kettle one, remy vsop, tullamore dew single, bacardi and bombay saphire.

I normally split my bar into two sections, and keep the cheap stuff with the mix, and only put out a few bottles of the good stuff.
Finally cracked open my bottle of W.L.Weller. Great stuff, I can see why it's a popular bourbon. I really get the sweetness of the corn In this one.0 -
Almost on page 3 BUMP!
So last night after work I made some sausages. And was thinking what flavours to add. so I added a few oz of makers mark to my mix. It was good, but next time I'm going to try a different bourbon.
I think the w.l. weller would complement pork a little bit more.
does anyone marinate in bourbon? (pork, chicken, beef, lamb, fish)

Stocked up today. Got some Weller's, Macallan 12 and another bottle of Eagle Rare (the only bottle in town basically). So now I have 3 bottles of Eagle to sip on until they become more readily available around here again.0
