I kind of understand new vinyl selling out in a day but when you can't buy the box to put them in unless you live on this site is annoying.

I have the 2x4 Kallax unit, and built it horizontally so it's 2 cubes high by 4 long. (No need to bolt it to the wall sitting like that.) I also put in the door inserts on the bottom ends, and the drawer inserts on the bottom inside cubes. I left the top cubes open, and that's where all of my records are, with my turntable and speakers on top. I don't have a HUGE vinyl collection, so I've only filled in two cubes so far...leaves some room to keep growing! :)

Built mine horizontally as well. Had it for.. 2+ years now and it's held up just fine. I put the casters on mine so it's easy to move (I'm a one man show) and it makes cleaning behind the unit a cinch. I got a couple of those collapsable fabric bins to fit in 2 of the cubes to hold my accessories & other stuff.
Does that mean the records are sitting on the short plank or the long plank? Because these things are built to support weight only on the long one, and the short ones are just cubby separators. If you don't use it like that, this might happen. :fearful: Oops!!!

That said, I've got a couple of the the Kalax (actually, its predecessor, which I like better - thicker outer frame), one with 8 squares and the other with 16. They are both still not showing any signs of weakening, and I've had them for around 8 years. I don't have them anchored though, and I know I should.

We have 3 of those--Expedit was the name. They are a lot sturdier than the Kallax, in my opinion. I anchored them to the wall & they are solid.

Yeah since they sold out twice and I can't be the only one who missed it, a restock would be great

Or if an extra unsold is still available in the warehouse, I am game for sure.

Correct, the short planks. On a 4x2 it's totally fine to assemble it that way.
