The love for the hobby is intense - I love reading these convos!

  • I love Thomas' work - it's simple and clean. While I love the intricacies of many other posters (like the MSG owl), there's something nice and presentable about Thomas' work and "The Catch" is an embodiment of that. I also feel that Thomas, much like Munk One, does a great job of capturing in the essence of where the show takes place as seen with the Ohana Fest, Bonnaroo, and Toucan South American prints. The Catch is no exception.

Long story short, I hope he does a lot more work for Pearl Jam with the caveat being that he figures out how to setup his store and ship his posters.

+1 - I would love to see Thomas doing more PJ posters in the future.

His Star Wars prints (among others) are beautiful!

He and a few others have done some cool Star Wars prints!

Fred pilacio does a coooooool concept. Check it out. http://www.fredpalacio.com/#/art-challenge/

Now I still think with 4-5000 or so prints there will always be a Thomas but I'm thinking people will be letting go of them.

There are literally only four on eBay right now, ranging from $170 to over $300.

There is not going to be some mass sell-off, and this poster will soon join the ranks of the Cracker Jack, Kong, Pitt, and the most recent Charlotte.

Selling prices of under $200 will very quickly become a thing of the past.

It sold out two days early in Boston, it sold out in 10 minutes here in the shop, and the demand FAR exceeds the supply. It doesn't matter if there were 4000-5000 produced or not when tens of thousands of people want it!

I actually started this thread to see what people thought. I really do think a bunch of people may start selling their posters. We will see.

What I do find odd is it is hovering around $200 and the AP is hovering just over $200. There should be a huge difference between the two but I guess when there is 300 of them to go around it doesn't matter to people?

I love the debate, and there are a lot of valid arguments on both sides of this. Its not going to be some average poster going for $65, this much at least we know.

You raise an interesting point though about the SE vs. AP prices for the Catch, and how they aren't much different. I've seen this happen in the past with many other posters too. Still, I'd rather have an AP any day of the week.

It's a fun debate, for sure....... my poster collection has grown exponentially over the last few years (my wife is ready to murder me!), and I love talking about them.

I do want to bring up your point about knowing who's right in 3 years........ it's possible that both of you are right.

The demand sets the market, so if no one buys at the current $200 price, and sellers are forced to drop the prices to move them, then they will be over priced for this current market. If the value / pricing increases the way most of us expect, a person will be hard pressed to find this poster in the $200 range probably even a year from now, it will likely be a good bit higher. That doesn't mean they weren't overpriced for this current market, though...... everything is relative.

Just making small talk, not so much concerned about who's wrong or right..... as mentioned above, I love the conversation.
  • The way I see it with this print up to this point. The price it is currently going for has not changed from the time they were first listed at the beginning of August. There have been very few if any go for less than 150. I think if it continues to stay around this value. The people really wanting them will have most of them. They will then start to pop up once or twice a year and be a lot more expensive then. That is just my guess.
