period. that's it. the drunk douchebag meathead assholes that couldn't keep their mouths shut ruined it. everything that should have been good about that show was overshadowed by the jerks in the crowd. it was hands down the most annoying experience i've ever had at a concert. we were about to hear BRAIN DAMAGE ACOUSTIC for probably the first and only time and eddie got so annoyed and pissed off because of these loud mouthed idiots that he stopped less than a minute into it, threw the sheet music aside, and moved on to the next song. people are morons. i just don't understand the "screamers". do they think it's funny? do they think other people think it's funny? are they trying to annoy everyone? are they trying to piss off the artist? i'm actually surprised there weren't any fights because for every screamer there were hundreds of agitated fans. there actually was an a bit of an altercation with some words exchange in the lower balcony just right of center close to where i was sitting but the two rows between the two prevented anything physical. anyway, thursday night was amazing and one of the best musical experiences i've ever had, but friday was ruined and left a very bad taste in my mouth. it was a shame.

I saw the argument in Balcony 1 that you're referring to. Totally knew it would happen, because the girl with them had been standing up and screaming a few times during the show. I myself wanted to go down there and give her a piece of my mind...but all that would have done is add to the noise.
I'm not lost, but I don't know where I am...David Byrne, Talking Heads
i also met alot of people from Milwaukee and other surrounding areas, so i dont think it was all locals...including myself from St. Louis
Yes, I was at both shows, and there were less screamers at thursdays show. it was more laid back. It was an intense show, but not as raucous as Friday.
I didnt say it was all locals. I said it was more locals. Probably due to the fact that it was a friday, and more people could travel.
I know severla people who made the trip for the friday show only.
I don't like people screaming a bunch either but hell people are drunk and do stupid things when drinking, that is part of being drunk. Did it run the show for me, HELL NO.
Ed is a drinker too and to say they should not sell booze there is just hypocritical. It is part of the concert experience. It was an experiment for Ed to play these gigs and he even said at the beginning, it is not a solo gig as we are just as much a part of it as him and the crew.
If you did not enjoy yourself at the concert you might want to rethink going to concerts.
Honestly, being on the floor, I could not really hear all the yells as much as you guys in the balconies.
I assumed Ed only used Brain Damage as an intro to masters of war. He was constantly tossing his music aside.
Did any of you notify security of the screamers or yellers?
I was in the 4th row (thanks 10C!) on Friday night, and I certainly didn't get the feeling that Ed cut Brain Damage short...I think he did the exact "teaser" that he wanted to do and them went on to MoW.
Yeah, there were some people who needed to shut up, but I really couldn't hear most of it where we were setting.
Only way Chicago will see the Cup!
Seriously he's from Chicago, why not bring it?
HA!
It boggles my mind that someone would blame a few drunk screamers solely on the presence of Lord Stanley's Cup. What was their second leading theory??? George Bush?? Space Aliens?? Global Warming??

I am pretty sure, even while drunk, Ed would respect a musician being on stage, asking everyone to "shut the fuck up."

I thought the show was fantastic. The crowd was OK, much better then the Milwaukee crowd.
Being from Milwaukee I was hoping the crowd would have been respectable. I know it was only a few assholes, but it still makes for a shitty experience for Eddie and the security people.
"so this is how liberty ends, with thunderous applause"
Not sure if this has been posted anywhere, but the Cup made it's way over to Stanley's in Lincoln Park after the show. Chelios got on the bar, the band stop playing and with much sincerity Chelios said that it is always an honor to come back to Chicago. He thanked the owner of Stanley's for 17-18 years of real friendship and for always making him feel welcomed when he comes back to Chicago and his bar. He then proceeded to pour a total of about 40 beers (not all at once) into the cup and let everyone take a sip from "Lord Stanley" at Stanley's. Oh by the way, Eddie, Cusack, Kerry Wood, EJ, and many many more guests also got their drink on in the basement at Stanley's. Very cool scene but everyone was waiting for Eddie to play with the house band like he did last year, but it never happend.
Grant it I was in fan club seats for both shows (thanks Dirty Tom for night #1) but I did not think the screamers were that bad as everyone says they were. Again ,the floor probably had a different vibe than the balcony but a few screams from top is not going to ruin the night for me. I thought the shows were amazing and I met a lot a great fans again...PJ fans are the best.
For the team that wins the cup, each player get to bring the cup with them wherever they go for a certain amount of time.
Some players have a party and serve chicken wings out of it. Some feed their dogs food out of it. It has ended up in many a strip club. Its like your metal friend for a week. Its been to hundreds of concerts.
Since Chris Chelios and Ed were friends from way back when they were teenagers, I didnt see it that odd that it was at an Eddie Vedder concert.
Eddie Vedder
Chris Chelios
John Cusack
All chicagoans who made it big. its no wonder they are friends.
Thank you for educating. Apparently it is far easier to make an ignorant post (not to mention several ignorant supporting replies to it) rather than stop to think there may be a reason why the Stanley Cup pops up all over the world, and maybe investigate the tradition of the cup to better understand why it showed up at an EV concert. I can certainly understand the curiosity; my wife asked me what that was all about and I'm like "tradition". I don't even like hockey and thought it was cool.
But you guys want to blame Chelios and the cup for the behavior of others amongst you at the show. Seriously? There were rowdy fans at a concert - shocking!
I would have given my right nut to be on the floor dealing with some idiots rather than bumping my head on the rafters all night in the gallery.
I was there at the second night, and honestly I thought the Stanley Cup, Sean Penn, and Cusack made for an exciting night. There was a good buzz in the air. Sure, there were some overly drunk folks there. I have come to accept that at a concert. I probably have been one of those guys before. I do think it was more evident in a more acoustic event, in a smaller venue.
Overall, the performance was much greater than the distractions.
I am a Blackhawks fan and it was great to see the cup. The shows were great. What is the big deal about the cup being there?
I don't know, it just seems like the whole thing was a huge spectacle in a setting that wasn't really appropriate, not to mention a distraction from the show. I mean, did he sit with it on his lap the whole time or what? It just seems odd!
Jesus, after reading some more of these posts it sounds like we were at a Slayer concert. People need to come to the conculsion that they should be thankful they were even in the damn building for either night. "Screamers ruined my night!!!" BOO HOO..Sometimes I think some PJ fans are spoiled little brats that cannot deal with a situation or try to make the best out of it. People would have given up a lot to be at the show you cry babies.

or maybe it was the stupid fucking drunk idiot in your row who kept clapping out of time during a real quiet song. yeah i'm grateful, but for fuck's sake, get stoned somewhere else or learn to clap in time!

I must say that I think Thursday night was a better show. The vibe was just perfect that night. Friday night did seem a bit more rowdy and I think the crowd got a little too excited about the Stanley Cup and celebrities.. I had some drunk couple in front of me who made out half the night then spent the other half waving at John Cusack like they knew the guy. I don't think I heard much yelling of songs though. I don't know if it was because of the seats or what. My only two issues was the couple on night 2 and the guy who pissed himself (in the row in front of me) on night 1. Thursday just felt more.. I don't know.. genuine or something.. Like everyone was on the same page and sharing the same experience.. And Friday night, I just didn't feel like the crowd was the same. Who knows.. I consider myself lucky to have seen three (including the LA 1 show) Eddie Vedder solo shows though..
Wow for a guy that wasn't even there Thursday, I must admit you're right.
It did seem like the crowd wasn't on the same page most the night.
I did try my best to not be distracted by others and focused on Ed and the music.
Good for you - no offense to either of you but fuck the crowd...as much as I would have liked to hear Walking the Cow and Parting Ways, I wouldn't trade it in a million years for Soon Forget, Can't Explain, Growing Up and Throw Your Arms Around Me (although they both sang the 1st verse for some reason).
Step back a bit and take another look at the set list.
I am by no means playing down the fact that there are some tools out there who get drunk and act like even bigger tools, I've been there - retard in front of me at MSG 1 - but the bigger picture should include the set list IMO.
Chelios had been drinking since about 930 am, and EV joined him soon after that....went to the Cubs game...and then to the show 2....he was hardly rested...but he's amazing. He played 2 shows and then until after 9am Saturday morning at Stanleys. He's amazing.
