jack white help

mcgruff10mcgruff10 New Jersey Posts: 27,883
Ok forgive me because I just discovered/realized the brilliance of Jack White. I saw a live show on tv last night and I've been listening to him all morning. Someone point to a starting point...what album do I get first?
I feel ashamed that it took so long to listen to him.

Elephant by The White Stripes is one of my favorite albums ever. I'd say something from the WS above all else.

    Well... Yeah!
    All his albums are great!

@mcgruff10: I imagine you saw his solo performance on TV?
If that's the case, a good place to start would be "Blunderbuss" (his debut solo album)

His Bonnaroo set was incredible. I was there in person and I'm so thankful Third Man dedicated an entire Vault to it (Plus, I can see myself in the crowd shot on the back of the box set).
If you like that show, definitely get his two solo albums, Blunderbuss and Lazaretto. Like mentioned above, anything White Stripes is a great starting point.
I have an extra sealed black copy of the acoustic recordings compilation that he put out a few months back if you're interested.
Had you watched that set a week earlier, you could have got in on TMR Vault 30, which hits on all three of his main bands (White Stripes, Raconteurs, and the Dead Weather).

Both of his solo albums (Blunderbuss and Lazaretto), and his recent acoustic release.
And all White Stripes, lol. And all Raconteurs stuff. ;)

Dude I'm telling you start with the studio stuff. You'll grow to love the tracks and then enjoy their takes on the live stuff even more.

Anything but Lazaretto, save that for last.
And you still might hate it, I love Jack White but that album is hard on the ears.

Yeah I was listening to lazaretto last night and there's definitely some songs I was not into. The song lazaretto is freaking amazing.

Yeah, title track is killer but there weren't any others I liked so I gave it to a buddy who likes more "experimental" music.

Agree with this. If someone has tried to get me to be a fan of WS or JW on strictly live recordings from the beginning I don't think I would have become a fan.
