Fare well good friend (Grandpa)

Fare well good friend, fare well
I can still see you running through the tree’s
Running through the moment chasing down a dream.

I can still remember the promises, the laugh’s we had in 1943
Holding every minute every second every scream
The sound of cannons fire passing bullets in between
Yes I remember everything
Fare well good friend, fare well.

The smell of fire burning awakens me from my sleep
Looking for my unit deep inside my dream
As life pours out of my body I feel a slight return
Holding every memory, every word every dream.

The pictures on the wall tell me where I’ve already been
We were soldiers but more than that we were friends
I’ve never forgotten who and where or when
Fare well good friend I’ll see you in the end.

I remember him as a child in 1973
He would stare off into space and tears would roll down his face
no words were ever spoken but grandma always knew where he’d been
she always took his hand and told him she would be with him till the end.

He was with her for her last breath holding on to her hand
He said that she would be alright, I’ll see you in the end
Fare well my friend I’ll always love you fare well till the end.

Grandpa starred into space one more time then closed his eyes and smiled
He never said good-by but grandma knows where he’s been.

Godfather.
