    Excuse my ignorance, but I've always taken my albums out of the sleeves the second I open them. I feel it clutters my record collection and just looks uncomfortable. I see the benefit of protecting the jacket over time but Is there another reason they should be in these types of sleeves?

    No, it's precisely for protecting the jackets over time. Most of us I think plan on having them until we die (and maybe passing them on after that), and they really do get a lot of normal wear damage over the years if you don't protect them.
