Eddie Vedder and the next Pearl Jam Album Musical Direction

Vs. Character study. Went back to sleeping in van to relate to ideas in songs.
Vitalogy: More dominant guitar songwriting, more of punk influence in song style.
No Code: Singing style changes with time playing with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
Yield: Ebow makes appearance. Song Writing as a band takes collaborative nature
Binaural: First ukulele song on an album, Soon Forget.
Riot Act. Increased political activism i.e. Bushleaguer, tour rants, and Vote for Change Tour.
Into the Wild: Songwriting based on open chords begins to dominate style. Songs on following albums include Just Breathe, The End, Speed of Sound, Swallowed Whole, Future Days. Solo touring with selected covers showcases Vedder's acoustic guitar skill.
Ukulele Songs. Without You which in past would be Pearl Jam song, a single and solo tour follows.
Fatherhood and a mellowing out evident in many new songs, a stark contrast to earlier albums angst.

So...what's next for Eddie Vedder? Does he ever plan on writing by plugging in again and rocking out, or is the mellow acoustic and ukulele his new best friend and dominate means of self expression? I'm hoping Pete Townsend can help him rediscover the feeling of hi gain on a Gibson SG through a Marshall amp and let Mike solo the fuck over whatever he comes up with.

No offense, but the title of your thread sounds like we're in a post-PJ world. We're not. Once I finally forced myself to open your thread, I understood what you meant.

    To answer your question....

    How would we know?

SMH, why do I even bother to try to contribute to this board?

  • I would love it, if his next album was non-PJ venture, for it to be another band. Like he and Flea and Stuart Copeland. If it's PJ, then I am fine with the current direction, just save the "Sirens" for his next uke or banjo album.

I was always hoping for more from the Ed, Flea, Jack Irons band. Do that again!

If Rappers can do it for an album why not Pearl Jam? Speaking of which add Cyprus Hill for another track.

Not sure about the musical direction..but if he were to do some "ed shows" in the near future I would like to see a backing band. Like those few shows he did with c average.

I've been itching for new material for some time, solo or band.

For PJ, pure collaborative rock. Lay off the slower tunes. Maybe a ballad for a filler as they have plenty of slower songs in their catalog.

Ed, ITW is a great album. I'd be happy with an extension of that combo'd with Liam Finn type of music/experimentation.

I know it wouldn't be super proggy... but I'd love to see PJ get as proggy as PJ could get! At least a song or three.
  • Given how spacey and improvisational they've proven they can still be (of the earth and masters of war at the ballpark shows...especially wrigley) I hope they go more towards that direction in the next studio album. Get creative and turn it up. Don't polish it too much.
