Is the Peak Oil story dead and gone?

Would like some serious responses here by anyone willing to read all of the James Howard Kunstler article linked here (no, it's not that long!). Occasionally I will mention the subject of peak oil to others and generally get the same response. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
So what do some of you who read the article (and hopefully understand the subject to some degree) think about it?
