Not Loud Enough?

I heard several people mention that the band wasn't nearly loud enough at Lollapalooza and that brought up an issue I had at the Vegas show last year.
I thought the opening band sounded fine but when Pearl Jam came on they weren't loud enough, especially Eddie. While I realize this does not make or break a concert it doesn't hurt the immersion factor to be able to hear the lead singer.
I initially thought this may have been an isolated incident but after all the fanviews about the Lollapalooza issues (I'm NOT referring to Mike, but to the overall loudness of the band) I'm wondering if this is something typical of the band.
I realize people are sensitive around here (attaches flame retardant suit) but I'm wondering about those people who have been to a variety of concerts and what their experiences were.

I have no complaints on the sound, with my expectations being for traditonal bad festival sound .
My ears were ringing some 12hrs or so later
