***Fanviews Stone Gossard LA 10/11/08

So I'm not seeing any post about last nights show other than the one for pictures (which I would like a copy of if posable.) I'm really glad I wasn't late like I thought I was going to be. (I got stuck in traffic and didn't get to the place until about 7:20. I love the Avalon, it's such a nice small place. Even being late it seemed pretty empty. But I think people must have been hiding because once the music started it filled in pretty good.
Stone was a lot of fun to see, even knowing what was coming from him I was still impressed. I wish I could remember the band that played after him. (If someone want's to remind me I'd be thankful.) I'm not familiar with the song Stone played with them (Thomas Jefferson's Son.) And as I've seen mentioned from others Vince Mira was amazing. Hearing him talk before he started playing I was sure I'd been put on. No way could that guy belt out the songs the way he did, totally shocked. I would have loved to see Stone make one final appearance and play a song with him. Oh well.
All in all a great time. Oh and I can't forget the free beer. I knew about the food but I didn't know beer was coming. I've never seen someone work so hard to give away free beer, they kept giving me more of them, I end up leaving with a pocket full of beer tickets! :(

For the last event in San Francisco... if you can... please go to the tree planting an help out. It is a very rewarding experience. But if you do... please... do the following:
Stretch.
Bring a good pair of work gloves... not gardening gloves.
A pair of hard soled work boots (easier to drive that spade shovel into the ground).
Stretch.
Drink plenty of water.
Leave the Pick/Axe work for the guys... if the guys know how to handle a pick/axe.
Stretch.
Have fun.
Hail, Hail!!!
i doubt there will be to many fanviews, i think i met maybe 4 10clubbers the whole night. i was kind of shocked by that to be honest.
it was an amazing night for sure, i got hooked up with stones setlist and a pick which i was very thankful for. i guess being the only person in the entire building with a pearl jam shirt on helped out lol. he nodded at me a couple times when i was singing along... "i gotta go, i gotta swim, i gotta use my fins..."

Glad you had a great time... I know i did.
There were 10 Club fans there... just not the ones that post here... maybe 2 or 3. There were 4 fans that waited for Stone after the show... and 3 E-Bay autograph guys... and me. I knew it wouldn't be a long wait since the Avalon converts into a techno-Hollywood night club with 15 drinks after mid-night.
I told Stone i'd probably be cursing him the next day... which I only did when I found out the jaccuzzi at my complex was shut down.
But, all in all... it was a good day... actually... a great weekend... I planted trees... had lunch with Stone... free beer and free food at the gig... great live music... hung out with the Foo Fighter Chris the next night... got to play Roadie For A Day... Dodgers won... and got to see the best blocked punt for a touchdown in a Sudden Death game, ever. It was a great weekend.
Hail, Hail!!!
The thing that stuck out most for me about Stone's set was just how much fun he was having. He smiled throughout his whole set (not that he doesn't smile while playing with Pearl Jam, but he just seemed more relaxed during this performance). Interesting to see what songs he likes just by the covers he played.
The second band (think they were called Han Lo and the Big Babies?) were great as well. Anybody have any info on that song Stone did with them, "Thomas Jefferson's Son"? Had a very bluesy feel to me. Would love to hear it again (and the whole show) if any tapers got it
Finally, Vince Mira blew me away. When he first spoke with that soft voice, I thought I don't see why everyone is making a big deal about him. Then he went into that first song and I think the room collectively evacuated their bowels at the shock of the voice coming out of that teenager.
I was hoping the musicians would mingle in the theatre with fans like at other stops on the tour, then Avalon personnel kicked everybody out. Sadly, I missed out on meeting Stone to get his autograph on a pic I shot of him in 2000 in Lubbock because my ride just had to go right after the show.:(
Overall, you can't argue with a great show (for $20 a ticket), free (and tasty) food and a free copy of GQ with a feature (and pics) of Megan Fox. God Bless America.
I love Stone but didn't really enjoy his set...the 2nd band was awful--which is a shame, because they were talented musically, but the whole thing was just bad.
vince mira was, indeed, awesome.

Thank you so much for sharing these pics and info!
There's a picture of Stone, setting one of the 200+ trees we put to root that day.

Hail, Hail!!!
ummm, the boxed dinners were on biodegradable trays.
I agree about the middle band being the low-light of the night. Maybe I'm just not a "do wave" fan. But I did like all their unusual instruments.
Overall, though, I thought it was a pretty cool night. And I don't think anybody mentioned the free t-shirts and snacks (although I didn't fare as well with the free drinks).
As for the food, I initially had the same thought about all the waste, but I spoke with one of the eco-caterers there, and she told me both the utensils and the box were biodegradable. In fact, she said that she composts and that the containers biodegrade in about a month, which I thought was pretty fast.
What I wish there *had* been, though, was a recommendation that people order drinks that wouldn't be served in plastic glasses. (e.g. If you ordered a Heneken (sp?), they poured it in a plastic cup, but if you ordered a Bud, let's say, they gave it to you in the (much more recyclable) can.
still more trash than necessary, biodegradeable or not--they don't just disappear. and, a lot of food was wasted from the platters on the tables. it was just an odd night, that's all I'm saying!
