Why Many Americans Don't Understand Machine Gun Laws

I lot of what is in this article from Florida I did not know...

http://taskandpurpose.com/many-americans-dont-understand-machine-gun-laws/

It’s totally legal to own a machine gun, but the laws and regulations are widely misunderstood.
The instructor’s face wore a frown, and I was worried that I’d committed some safety violation that was going to get me kicked out of the rifle range. When you’re firing the same kind of machine gun that killed Osama bin Laden, a weapon that can spit out 900 bullets a minute, the rules are many, and strictly observed.

The instructor leaned closer. “Stop firing little bursts,” he urged me. “You’re not getting the real fun of the gun. This time, when you pull the trigger, keep holding it down until every bullet is gone.”

I nodded, put my eye back to the crosshair sight of the sleek HK416, and squeezed the trigger. Fifteen shots rang out in a couple of seconds, their bass-drum whump-whump-whumps synchronized with the thump of the gunstock against my shoulder, a furious cacophony of thunderous noise, untrammeled power and surging adrenaline, all enveloped with the acrid scent of gun powder.

The instructor was smiling again. “You get it now?” he asked.

Ok, pretty pointless article. $8k would be the way way bottom end, $16k+ is where the good stuff starts.

Tactically they aren't that desirable, and they are not completely legal as many States ban possession. I've shot quite sure few, but the novelty wears off fast. They are expensive and ammo isn't cheap either.

Modifying them will net one serious prison time. I can pretty much guarantee that when the mainstream media claims someone has automatic weapons they are misleading intentionally.

I've fired an M16 and an M60 while in ROTC some 36 years ago. The M16 on semi automatic and automatic many times no problems there. The M60 however, had quite a kick that could be felt in my shoulder. On fully automatic the barrel would get very hot we learned quickly never to touch it I could feel the heat coming off of it. I once gave a timed presentation on breaking it down a M60 and putting it back together. It wasn't easy but I made it under the time limit.

Nothing interesting in shooting the M60 just seeing/feeling the destruction that weapon could was enough for me. I found being on the rifle team shooting a 22. caliber smallbore rifle was far more interesting. Doing so in the three shooting positions of standing, kneeling and prone.

Well good for them. I don't really understand the point of the article though, it's not like it's a gun expert trying to educate the ignorant on Class III firearms.

Plus it's really moot, just like the AR is overblown in its use, fully automatic weapons are never used in the US in mass shootings or street crime.

What's article 2, the differences in suicide vest usage in the US?

And a glock 18 is not powerful. It is a 9mm. They put a stock on it so their customers don't shoot everything that isn't the designated target. It's for controllability. The pistol isn't designed for full auto and efficiency at the same time.

Even if some people do purchase them, they most likely will never be used in criminal activities.

Maybe, but I doubt too many are people you'll ever have to worry about.
