The "Best Of" Debate

First, name the top 5 PJ poster artists in order. You can use any criteria you like, be it overall body of work, longevity, subject matter, or it can be an artist who made one truly classic poster. Second, post each artist's best (not most "valuable") poster. I've always been interested in learning what other people on the board think about this!

1. Emek- extremely detailed, socially conscious subject matter.
Best PJ poster, Chief (Edmonton, 2011):
image
2. Ames Bros.- the unofficial official PJ artists
Best PJ poster, Donkey Kong (MSG II, 2010)
image
3. Klausen- when he gets it right, he crushes it
Best PJ poster, the Reaper (DC, 2006):
image
4. Munk One- along with Emek, the most impressive "artist" IMO. Love the use of different materials on the paper to give embossed or glossy look.
Best PJ Poster, Pittsburgh 13

5. Kozik- iconic lowbrow artist
Best (and only solo) PJ poster, the "Green Lady":

    5?

    1. Munk One - All his prints are good, but I feel like the EV solo Seattle poster is the best summation
    image

    2. Ames Bros - Straight forward style, often touching on pop-culture imagery. (I love their t-shirts)
    image

    3. Mark 5 - Always brings it. Very straight forward and makes 'logo' type artwork. Does well with sports team call-outs and playing card designs
    image

    4. Klausen - Another dependable artist. Often multiple/deeper meanings/things to look at in the art. Art work is always "fun-sized" which I appreciate
    image

    5. Steve Thomas - Not much body of work with PJ yet.... but I love his style, the old-fashioned advertisement-type work. Looking at his online store, I could decorate my house with his prints.
(since we see the Fenway print every day)

I left Emek out, his stuff is great, just a bit too much detail. I would like to see more from Mike Fudge, Bioworkz, Sperry, and Welker.

    1) Munk One - Pitt 13
    2) Ames - Kong 10
    3) Thomas - Fenway 16
    4) Klausen - DC 06
    5) Schuss - Cracker Jack 13 (Small sample size but I dig the simplicity of his prints)

I actually switched Kozik and Shuss a few times as the "small sample size pick" before deciding on Kozik just for nostalgia. That Cracker Jack really was a huge (not literally!) poster!

The order is based on my favorite artists, but doesn't represent which prints I want the most or consider most valuable.

    1) Munk One - Pitt '13 - speaks for itself and my first show, so great meaning and great art. The colors pop and it relates to the city which is always nice. Honorable mention to Adelaide 09 koalas.

    2) Mike Fudge - I love the Raleigh and the Quebec, but they are not on my list of favorite of all time. HOWEVER I am putting him on this list because I think he has the most potential to impress in the future. Of the two he has done, the Quebec is my favorite because it is more true to his style

    3) Ken Taylor - Columbia '16 - the colors are what make me love this one. He has also done a few other cool ones.

    4) Ames - '98 Seattle, its just a simple and cool classic Ames - honorable mention to Santa Barbara 2003 because I have always considered it a top Ames.

    5) Faile - Spokane '13 is sweet to me with the junkyard theme and I can't wait to get it framed.

3: Ames Bros - Any 1998 poster pretty much. Although they have been a little too heavy on monkeys/apes/gorillas over the last few tours.
4: Munk One - Pittsburgh, 2013 puts him on the list all by itself but he has a great deal of good work.
5: Jeff Soto - I love his work. The poster he did for EV solo show (11/27/12) is simply amazing...especially in person.

I love all 3 of my '98 posters (Seattle, Vancouver, and Missoula). I think they're Ames Bros. Seattle and Missoula for sure are. The '98's are still my favourites.

    Runner's up:

Gorge '06: The poster with Pearl Jam as the cliff face, and someone biking off it.
Wrigley 16: The one with the Eagle
    Gorge '05 - I think it's a Klaussen

    Worst in my collection:

    Vancouver '11
    Seattle '02
    Vancouver '05
    Seattle '13
Temple of the Dog Seattle '16 (it's pretty bad unless you went to the other two shows and framed the set, standalone it's just a creepy poster of Andy's face).

Is there a better PJ poster repository somewhere other than expressobeans? I've got a pretty good idea of what I want to put down here but EB's search function isn't the best in specificity.
