Please Man of the hour for 2 dads that have been lost at Wrigley 2
If this could somehow get to the band for the Monday show, I'd like to request "Man of the Hour" for my dad who passed away last month after a 2 year battle with cancer.
This song always meant so much to me ever since the very first time I heard it after watching "Big Fish". The movie really struck a chord with me about the dynamics of a father-son relationship. But the ending scene after the funeral really hits home with the me after the passing of my dad. My dad touched the lives of so many people beyond our family, co-workers, neighbors, friends, friends of friends, classmates, hospital workers, nurses, doctors, anyone that spent time with him. He just wanted to make a loving connection with everyone who crossed paths with him in his life. I didn't really grasp the totality of this until his wake service. People who lost connection with my dad throughout the years, came up to my family and shared how much my dad meant to them. Hearing all of the great things about my dad and how he treated others is an inspiration to me to be the kind of man my dad was.
My dad was our the heart of our family and our hero. He sacrificed anything and everything for my mom, two brothers, sister, and his eight grandkids. We didn't have much growing up, but we did have his unconditional love, which is the most valuable thing a parent can give to a child. My family truly won the lottery when it came to my dad.
My family was lucky enough to spend the final moment's of my dad's life around his bedside at home. Being home meant so much to my mom and dad. They spent so much time working on it, landscaping, gardening, designing it, putting in the basement, you name it we did it. He was so proud of all of the work we did on the house. It was such a testament to his life.
In those final moments, I was able to share "Man of the Hour" with my family. They know how much this band means to me. This band has songs for any and every emotion that I have at any given moment and so many strike a chord with me. This song will be forever tattooed in my memory of the last few breaths my dad took.
I really struggled with if I was going to make a request or not. I do see a lot of people make requests for songs and I am very private when it comes to matters with my family, especially with dad's battle with cancer. But after seeing the previous request for the gentleman at Fenway for "I Got a Feeling", I figured why not. After reading about that story and seeing the video, I teared up myself. I've also learned these past few weeks that opening up and sharing does help me quite a bit with my loss.
But I also want to share this with my friend Dave who I will be attending this show with. It was 3 years ago that we were also both at Wrigley together. He also just lost his father unexpectedly the prior month before that show. So we will both at the show together, and I hope to share a moment with him and anyone else that has lost someone.
Thank you so much! While words may not express my feelings of gratitude, my tears of joy and sadness hopefully will.
love and peace,
Kevin

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your father, he sounds like great man. I will PM you now as I know how tough it is, but for here, I'll just say you have my full support, and I truly hope you get your song. No matter whether they play it or not, you'll have all those great memories of him and I'm sure the support of this community, which certainly helped me in the grieving process. There are some truly fantastic people in this club.
Much love and support,
Matt

I’m sorry for your loss and I understand what this song means to you. My wife and I have been chasing Man of the Hour this tour because we lost her father last year and this song also has a lot of meaning to our family. Your story about your dad had a lot of similarities to my father-in-law and I hope we all get Man of the Hour at Wrigley.
-Paul
It's a great fucking song
I've been unplugged from the world the last few days, but listened to Man of the Hour last night and just lost it again.
Please keep bumping and hopefully we can get this tomorrow.
Love to all!

So glad you got your song tonight!!! My wife and I were both shedding tears when they played it for both of you, and personally for us, it really made us think about my dad as well, as it was the first time I've heard it live since he passed. I hope you both felt the strength and emotions of Release on Sat as well. That verse, "oh dear dad, can you see me now, I am myself like you somehow....I'll ride the wave where it takes me, I'll hold the pain, release me!" absolutely shatters me. I loved it before he passed, but we've been fortunate to hear it 3 times since (Pemberton, Fenway 1, Wrigley 1) and it's taken on an even greater significance. I don't have many tattoos, and the last one I got was 17 years ago when I was 19, but I'm definitely going to find a way to put that on my arm in a tasteful way when I get home.
Much love to you both!
