Not really feeling the 2 new songs. Way too much autotune with his voice...maybe it will grow on me.

I think this will take a few listens and I really like listening to Bon Iver as an album. It is a little different, but sounds okay on first listen.
They are still the best concert I have seen, other than a PJ/EV gig. I walked out of their gig in a euphoric daze and was on cloud 9 for ages after it. Such an experience, as apposed to a concert.

the other song is good and I think it will play nicely in progression on an album!!

I've been trying to see what I think the new sound is influenced by and there are certain touches of of Radiohead and possibly Kanye's production, who I know Justin has worked with.
I do like it, but need more concentrated listens in the album. I find that the ones I need to listen more too, end up being the best stuff for me anyway. Radiohead, Kid A, took me a fair while to get into, and now I listen to that more than most of their other work.

I saw them in a small theatre in Brisbane, Australia. I went in loving the albums, but not having seen hardly any clips live. Went with a mate who I dragged along and we both hold that gig on a pedestal. The whole band is like an organic production, with everything feeding into one fantastic outcome. That was years ago now (maybe 2012) and they haven't been back since. They did 2 show's at the Sydney Opera House this year that looked phenomenal, but I couldn't get to Sydney

Listened three times now. Awesome album. Reading the lyrics while listening is so interesting. So weird. And great.

The "singles" bored me, but bought the album anyway. We'll see what it brings.

I like Birdie's version of skinny love but when I tried to get into Iver I just couldn't synch with it.

Wow - each to their own, and whilst Birdie's cover was okay, for me it does not come close to Bon Iver's .

Her voice is a billion times better! Props to him for writing a beautiful song, but she Bob Dylaned him on that one lol

    wtf is birdie?

She's a teenage pop performer from Britain, I think.
She came up on our Spotify with a cover of Fire and Rain by James Taylor, we really liked it so we listened to a few of her others and really liked her version of Skinny Love as well.
I don't know if she writes her own stuff or if it's any good, but those two covers were damn good.
Very stripped down, pretty much just her beautiful voice and a piano...no auto-tune or echo effects lol

  • Maybe I'm missing something here but I've listened to the new album a few times and I can't help but think that it is awful. Most songs sound like a jumble of sounds with terrible auto-tune all over it. I'm glad some people seem to be liking it, but it just isn't doing it for me. I was so pumped for this album too as I absolutely loved the first 2....bummer.

I can definitely see where you are coming from with the new album. I like it, but is definitely pushing far past his first 2 album's boundaries.
I found the first 2 songs hard to listen to individually, but enjoyed the album when listened to as a whole.

I liked it when Radiohead went off track with Kid A and then Amnesiac and although there were signs on OK Computer, Kid A was a definite jump out of what they had previously offered. I think this album is similar for Bon Iver.

With regards to Birdie, yes the girl can sing, but I would rather listen to Bon Iver''s version 100 times out of 100. She may have a "Better" voice, but I like the emotion heard in Bon Iver's far more. Not bagging Birdie at all, I've heard quite a few of her covers and she is good.

  • My favorite albums from my favorite artists are the ones where the sound is really pushed (Kid A, Binaural, Up, Ghost is Born) and I just can't get into this. I think I'm going to try listening and following the lyrics online. If that doesn't work, then I might just have to close the book on it and look forward to his next album.
