I was looking at Newark, but didn't know if there was a better city to stay close to a Path train. Looking for something in walking distance to a path station. Not too familiar with the area, any help would be great. Where's everyone else stayin' anyways?

  • Hoboken would probably be a lot more fun than Newark , but I don't think there are any hotels in Hoboken. One option is to stay in Jersey City which also has a PATH train at Journal Square and at Exchange Place. See here for more info: http://www.panynj.gov/CommutingTravel/path/html/time.html

The Hyatt is located at Exchange Place. You can also access Hoboken, which has a good nightlife via the light rail system that connects Jersey City and Hoboken. I've never done this, but I've heard it's very easy. Info on the light rails is here: http://www.njtransit.com/sf/sf_servlet.srv?hdnPageAction=LightRailTo

If you decide to stay in Newark, you need to be careful about where you stay. Newark really isn't that badh, and there is a cool Portuguese area right near the train station that is worth spending some time in, but other than that it's not exactly an exciting place. I think the Hilton or Robert Treat Hotel are your best bets because they're both right near Newark Penn Station, which is where the PATH is located. Most of the other hotels are near the airport. One of the problems with the Newark PATH train is that you have to get off at Journal Square to get on the Hoboken PATH, which runs to 33rd Street.

I would highly recommend staying in Jersey City so that you have easy access to mid-town Manhattan and to Hoboken.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you need any more info :)

Ramblings, is there any decent close parking garage to the Hoboken or Newark PATH station? I usually stay in Jersey City and park there, then take the PATH from there even if I'm staying in Manhattan, but if the parking's cheaper in Hoboken I might try something different.

  • I only park in Hoboken for a few hours at a time, so I don't really know any insider info, but if you go to the last page of this website it should be helpful:

there are hotels by the newport-pavonia stop. that is the last stop in jersey city on the journal square-33rd street line. there is also a hotel near exchange place but i'm fairly certain it's pretty expensive considering when i worked over there, i saw a number of profressional teams staying there when they were playing games at the meadowlands.

  • Yeah it sucks, mostly all the hotels in Jersey City are sold out or at a ridiculous price. I'm almost considering staying right in NYC, but would prefer not spend so much. I'm lookin' for somewhere within walking distance to the PATH considering I'll be a lil to tipsy to drive. Where are all of you guys staying?

You could stay in White Plains or any close town/city that has a metro-north station. It's only a 30min train ride for like 12 bucks round trip from White Plains... could try Yonkers too.
