Best Bootlegs for a PJ Newcomer

bflynn1bflynn1 Posts: 1,394
So, I have a PJ newb coming with me to Wrigley 1 & 2. It feels weird, but fandom has to start somewhere. I mean, he's heard of Pearl Jam, but knows hardly anything about them. I'm doing everything I can to at least give him a little background info on the band etc. before we head out. We're watching PJ20 tomorrow night. I myself just got into the bootleg game not long ago and I'm still discovering awesome shows, but I'm wanting to get a list of boots together for the road trip. Any suggestions for ones that have high energy and/or just all around great performances to kind of give him an idea of what he could be in for at Wrigley?

I already have Gorge 05/06, Seattle 2000 on CD and I have the nugs app, but just don't know what shows are can't miss.

Thanks!

I say let him go into it cold turkey and have his mind blown.

Anything in the last few years, really. Catalog fully stocked and they play everything.

Pro tip: if you can, get poweramp on your phone, and get the flacs... get in the car and play it loud and proud

MSG 2, May 21st, 2010 is already a classic and sounds really great.
And I agree LO2L is fantastic.
Also, Vault 2 (Vic Theatre, Chicago, 2007) and Benaroya Hall 2003.
I feel like the boots from 2013 onward are really hit and miss. And if anyone tells you Moline, well, listen to it and judge for yourself. But that's what I did, actually bought that boot because of all the hype, and as someone who wasn't at the show, I think it pretty much sucks. Some of the songs are a complete disaster IMO. I regret spending money on it.

Is poweramp the one that's basically the music player "shell" and you add your own music files to it?

Yes. It is basically a music player but it has a lot of tuning/controls and you can play FLAC files. It also transfers from device too, so when I get a new smartphone I dont have to buy it again (I think it was 4 bucks or something). There is a trial version too.

If you want to listen to real bootlegs go with the big five: atlanta 94, melbourne or solider field 95, berlin 96 and melbourne 3/5/98.

I would create a playlist of good versions of PJs most played tracks so that he has widespread recognition of songs at the show.
