Hats off to the sound crew @ Fenway

Just wanted to say I've seen a few shows in Fenway and Foxboro and they've almost always SUCKED because of the sound.
As a matter of fact, last time in Fenway, I swore that I'd never go back there again. When I saw PJ was FINALLY getting there chance, I had to make an exception, but didn't expect much.
Last night I was shocked. You guys (the sound crew) have got your shit together. The sound was as good as most indoor arena shows I've been too and better than ALL outdoor venues.
Just wanted to give you your own post for "A JOB WELL DONE". You deserve it.

For months I was expecting the sound to be "just alright". Last night sounded great! Especially masters of war and black. Also thanks to Fenway security who kept people under control because some bozos needed it lol.

One of the best sounding shows I have seen in a while. I was in c5, 20 feet to the right of the mix position.. So it was perfect.

So Fenway's official Flac-HD download should be made available in 192kHz 24 Bit Flac & not 96kHz 24 Bit? :)

absolutely agree!! I was lucky enough to have heard their 12 song sound check in Thursday night which I'm sure helped in getting the mixes straight for the show. Thanks to the crew and thanks the band for putting it all together for us. See you Sunday!

  • I wasn't there last night, but in Telluride they used a sound and video crew that was phenomenal. Some of the best sound I've ever heard at a show and the camera shots for the video screen were amazing.
  • I sat in the grandstand. The sound was iffy there. Slow songs sounded fine. Fast songs were hit and miss. I barely could understand Eddie when he spoke. Comfortably numb was awesome. Mikes solo was the highlight.

The grandstand never sounds good especially if you're underneath. That was no fault of the sound crew that was the park itself

The sound in front of Mike's amps was pretty damn good! Thanks to the Sound Engineers!

Agreed, was shocked how good the sound was. It was loud. At MSG when the crowd was singing along, they almost drowned out Ed on occasion. I didn't have that problem last night, even when the whole Park was singing along I could always hear Ed just fine. Impressed.

That's a good point. I thought people weren't singing loud enough, but then I realized everyone in our section was singing their ass off.
Also someone mentioned that the video was also fantastic which is a good point. Hardly ever saw the cameraman. No huge boom getting in our way. Some really cool angles and close-up. Great job by the video crew also.

They played the exact same first 3 songs in Worcester night 1 and last nights blew that away hands down. Not sure if it was the band or the sound guys but it was leagues better imo.

  • I was so nervous based on others comments about concerts at Fenway. I sat in the front row of the EMC section that hangs over the grandstand and was blown away by the sound. Loud and clear with no echo whatsoever, made for an amazing night!

Aren't they employing a new system this tour? Recall a thread on this earlier this summer...

I thought the sound was great too. I was in the lower right field bleachers just past the foul pole.

Yeah, I was experiencing Deja Vu the first 3 songs. Great start and an even better night.

They have a new sound system?
Didn't understand how an outdoor concert @ Fenway sounded better than Worcester.

Thumbs up, the sound was unreal. I saw one other show there (The Police) and it wasn't even close. Both nights too, IMO.

I was told by more frequent Fenway show-goers than me that the speaker setups on the blue carts at home plate, 1B & 3B were not always present. there were additional & new-looking speakers inside the grandstand that I'd noticed, but I don't go to enough shows or sox games to say if those aren't always there.

but yes, I too thought it was fantastic. and from the little bit I've heard on the XM re-broadcast of night 1, a crispier sound all around is what was captured (at least compared to the average PJ radio live show being aired on xm).

Did you see this in the Deep publication from 10C? Or is there another Deep? I'm confused since we haven't received the 2016 version yet.

It was up for download just a short time, then they took it down. Not sure what year it's for.
It's called The Tour Issue and it's excellent. Think this will come with the 2016 single. (Only a guess)

Edit: This must be the 2016 issue. It's #13. 2015 was #12. Someone messed up and had it up for download then took it down.

    ROUND TWO

I'll be sitting about the same location for both Fenway shows this year that I sat in 2016
Back then, I didn't expect much with the sound and got blown away.
This time around, I'm ready for you.
I expect to be amazed by the sound and nothing less will do.
