Soberanes Fire; Carmel to Big Sur, CA

Sad news out of the Carmel to Big Sur area: The Soberanes Fire has has taken out 44 structures, 36 of which were homes, and now today, and one bulldozer operator killed. Almost 30,000 acres with only 15% containment.

Major kudos and hat's off to all those out there fighting that thing in 100 degree plus weather.

Crazy bad fire season this year. The Soberanes Fire started on July 22nd and is bigger than ever (currently 85,212) and full containment is not expected until September 30. I'm guessing that mean most of the Los Padres National Forest will be, literally, toast along with many structures and any animals that cannot escape. The haze from the smoke is ubiquitous, even here about 180 miles away as the crow flies.

And this is just one of many fires here in the west while Louisiana is under water once again. Crazy weather times = crazy times.

Hope everyone is staying safe out there.

No kidding - did they catch the person suspected of setting it? Or was it natural (lightning)?
