They pretty much have to play Hunger Strike every night in my opinion... why do it without Ed? This feels like a one time special deal, he can't fly to the east coast and stay in a 5 star hotel for 3 days? This isn't even a tour, it's 2 shows on the east coast 2 hours apart and 3 shows on the west coast with 1 of those being in Seattle... if you are going to wait 25 years to do this, why not do it right?

I think it's more possible than people think
I was initially in the "he'll only show up in Seattle" camp, but the more I think about it, the more I agree with you. 5 shows spread out over 2 weeks. My only thinking that would oppose it is would he really want to travel around to just hang out for 1 or 2 songs? Which leads to a dream scenario where he plays 4-5 songs as an opener and then comes out for Hunger Strike and whatever else. While I initially dismissed any thought of that, I now certainly think there is a possibility.
Soundgarden will be one of the opening acts. After their kick ass set is over, 2 roadies will come up on stage and put up a huge banner for the next act. And the name of that act will be .. "MOOKIE BLAYLOCK" . After their intense set Temple of the Dog will hit the stage blowing the minds out of everyone in the audience.

Would Ed really want to miss this special experience? Would he not want to hang out with his long time friends for a couple of very special concerts? I'm sure this is going to be very unique and fun for the band, not just us fans
Am I in the minority if I say that I don't want to see any ukulele songs? Cause I don't.. The last Ed solo show I saw I walked out being glad I didn't get a ticket to night 2 as well. I would be much happier if Cornell opened with some solo stuff.

Why wouldn't EV be announced from the get-go to boost ticket sales?
They won't need help selling out these 5 shows... Philly and Seattle will be gone in seconds... MSG will sell out just because it's MSG with only 2 shows within 3000 miles... SF will sellout with only 6,000 seats... and LA being the only southern cali show should also sellout or come close... the PJ camp is very smart and haven't over reached on a tour since 2006...
I won't be disappointed if he isn't there, but I also don't think it is that much of a longshot

If EV opened it would be 30-45 minutes, not a full show...
No chance. EV is not an opening act. Plus November is surf season in Hawaii. Id guess there is a chance he could participate. The man does travel by private jet and could easily do the five shows. He is undeniably part of the TOTD original project. I am excited to see how these play out.

Hawaii's winter waves are way too big and gnarly for our boy EV.

I think it was an issue of kinda overshadowing the whole thing and really a "branding" decision. Sure he was on the most iconic song, but this was always Chris's baby. If they promoted Ed then it's like "so it's Pearl Jam with Chris Cornell?" which we all know to have always been the case but I really think it's out of respect of the original genesis of the band. Having said that I do firmly believe he shows up at every show.

my sentiments exactly...I believe this could happen more than not...just the guys going out for a handful of shows and having some fun.

You're not alone. I have no desire to see Ed open up this show. This is a TOTD show. I'd be happy if Ed was at every show. If he is it should be in his traditional role of backup vocalist on a few songs. This isn't his deal, and the spotlight shouldn't be on him. On the selfish side, since I am not even remotely a fan of his uke stuff, I wouldn't want any of our limited time spent on that anyway. Not exactly a way to get the crowd pumped up for a big show. I'd much rather see Brad open up, or Chris, or Shawn Smith fronting MLB or Malfunkshun, or someone else who was close to Andy.
"I'll use the magic word - let's just shut the fuck up, please." EV, 04/13/08
Not sure how EV sits this out, but more likely than EV solo, I'd guess he does his 3-piece cover band. For those hoping for SG or PJ songs to be played by Temple, I would guess a strong "NO."
I think Ed will appear in his role as backing vocals, however I think Ed himself would refuse an opening slot, not because he's not worthy of the opening slot, but because this is about TOTD, not Ed. I'd say it's more likely Cornell would do solo stuff to open encore or something.
He said "we wanted to see what it would be like to be in the band we walked away from".
To me this means the entire band. It's 5 night not 20. So no Ed opening. No Ed announcement.
They will play 12 or so songs mostly TOTD then Walk off. During 1st encore they come out and u hear the hunger strike riff. Place goes nuts. Ed walks out for his part and then it's anyone's best guess what they do after. But Ed will let Chris have the band he should have had and won't upstage any of them. (Why didn't they stay a band? I blame Kim )
