Quick question for you Boston folk. Taking my wife there for our first trip to Boston and want to obviously stay somewhere decent. My only concern with staying somewhere like the theater district or harbor front is trying to get back to our hotel from Fenway after show. Will it be tough to get a train back? How long of a trip is it? Maybe we should look in the Copley square area? Thanks so much.

Don't stay in the Theatre District (fka the Combat Zone). It's not nice..
    This simply is not true.
Agreed. Its no better or worse than any other part of the city at this point. In terms of tourism, its pretty centrally located to everything, and you can catch a red, green, or orange line train. Some great bars/restaurants right in the area too. If you can find a deal there, then I would go for it.

In terms of post-Fenway trains... just grab a beer after the show, and it will die down. Trains run until 1230pm, and the show will end at 1100pm at the latest (the curfew is either 1030pm or 1100pm depending on the permit). Or grab an Uber/Lyft/Fasten (thanks to these guys, its easy and cheap to get around the city).

I hope you you enjoy the city!
Again, I personally love it and lived in the neighborhood for quite a few years, but I wouldn't exactly call it romantic. And this fella is traveling to the town with his wife for the first time.

Me? I think a male hooker in drag trying to hide his erection under a tight silver sequins dress is a hilarious sight that makes life worth living.

jmug23 and his wife? Maybe not so much.
Yes that is why they now sell 1 bedroom condos for $1 million in that area. What you describe didn't exist 10 years ago never mind now.

    Sad. Another strike against Boston.

At least The Tam and Jacque's are still around.

Back when I lived there, yes. Apparently, it's been Disneyfied now.

The whole town has really changed a lot. I went to a show at the waterfront pavilion last summer, and there's a whole neighborhood over there now where there used to be nothing.

And I lived in the Fenway after living in the Theater District, and that area is almost unrecognizable with its high-end condos and fancy restaurants lining Boylston. I imagine that there are no more male hookers (not in drag) in the Fens now either.

Sheesh. Might as well be Rockport at this point.

I'm staying at the Hyatt in Cambridge. The representative there told me it was "totally safe, no worries" to walk to/from Fenway. I know nothing is 100% these days. Can anyone confirm?

Looks like someone else in this thread is staying there as well as myself and my group of 10. Looks good. If splitting a room with 3 other people, it's better than most of the other hotels I looked at. Queen beds instead of full beds.

The Revere has shown up many times on Orbitz/Etc for around $270. Use their coupon codes for another 15% off. Purchase it through Ebates and get 6% cash back.

We are at the inn at Longwood. It's about a 10 min walk to Fenway by all the hospitals. About 200 or so a night, nothing special but has a bed, bathroom and looks clean....

I booked a room at Hotel Commonwealth for 4 (wife, 2 kids and me) when the price was in a "normal" range in January (330 dollars per night).
I arrive on the day of the first show, so I wanted some hotel in the very near to Fenway Park.
    4 weeks left...

    Who is staying there, too?

If you're a Booking.com "genius", you could get a king room there for $1,223 for August 5-8 ($408/night) for anyone who's interested. "Cheaper" then when I was looking a few months ago, still not cheap though. But seems like a good option if you want to be close to Fenway. I have a Fenway-facing room reserved, just trying to decide if I want to splurge or if I want to go a cheaper route. Can't beat rolling to and from the venue within minutes though, and the Fenway view is a plus!

The Four Seasons is also doing a 3 nights for the price of 2 deal. It's my favourite hotel in Boston, but too spendy for me.

    I like nice hotels

What can I say? I was excited about how the dress showed off my contours.

    I'll be at hotel commonwealth
  • When I was there a few summers ago... we stayed at the Colonnade. It features a rooftop pool which was nice and we walked back and forth to Fenway for ball games.

It might be worth a shot.

Stayed at the Colonnade when I ran the Marathon a few years back.
