I've always ventured to do things by myself including concerts, but usually when they are within a short driving distance. However, this year I bought WPB and Tampa tickets and then my husband found out he couldn't get off work. So I flew to Florida, rented a car, attended the fund raisers, and the concerts. I had a blast. Like others have said, I did exactly what I wanted to do when I wanted to do it. I was not totally isolated because I of the Wishlist pre-parties. Met a lot of great people there so didn't get lonely. That being said, I would rather travel with my husband. I felt guilty having fun while he was working.

I am going solo to DC1. I have never been solo before but I am not that concerned about it. I usually meet some great fans once we are in our seats anyway. Going with my husband is almost like going alone anyway. :D Those of you who sat near me at WPB & Tampa know what I am talking about. He is just really quiet, not a huge fan but goes to support me.

No I've never gone alone but I might as well. Once the music starts i'm totally zoned into that and nothing and no one else.

you should go alone - i do alot of things alone and i'm married with kids, Just need my "alone" time and there's nothing wrong with that! gives me a break from all the day to day crap and really rejuvenates my soul.

if you can't do things on your own - then there's no reason to live!

  • I go to shows without anyone all the time. If you're "freindly", out going and secure then you should have no problem meeting people and getting comfortable with those around you either before or during the show. Some of the best shows Ive been to (PJ and others) I have gone with out anyone. I dont call going to PJ shows alone because basically 90% of the people there are similar to me/you, I consider it going with a bunch of friends I havent yet met. Ill probably go to the Sat PJ show and Sun Sox game without anyone and enjoy every minute of it.
Going solo has its benefits especially if you looking for just one ticket or if its a standing floor venue where you can inch up to the front... by yourself.
See my post in Given about anyone wanting to take the flight to Bos from Phl this weekend.

i'll be going to see solo eddie solo tomorrow night. tickets opened up on ticketmast yesterday, so what the hell? why not? got row B in the orchestra.

i am really excited, i think going alone will be OK. i would feel weird in a huge arena venue, but for this setting, i can't see a difference.

  • the last 8 pj shows i went alone, and probably 1 out of 5 other bands i go alone. at first it sucked that i couldnt find anyone that wanted to go. but now i just ask to be polite, but i dont expect anyone to be like get me a ticket. this upcoming nin show was the first i was like screw them all im not wasting my time asking. i think it would be cool to go to shows with people i know again, but ive met some cool people, especially at pj shows. pretty much all my friends that were into concerts suck now, thats how it goes i guess.

I go to every show by myself, with the exception of some pj shows that i attend with a fellow pj fanatic.
All my friends, family & coworkers are lame asses and either can't afford it or just plain don't go to concerts.

I have had the live concert bug since 1979 when i started attending shows.

Going solo to a show works well for me. I can't handle taking a non-fan with me just for company. Also, I can do my "geek fan" thing; hanging around before/after a show, getting autographs, meeting the musicians, etc, when I'm on my own. It can be a real (understandable) hassle to get someone to stand around for hours after a show when they're really not into it! Sometimes it's nice doing a small club gig with a friend or two, but for the larger, more devoted shows I'm my own best company.

As long as you're there in the building with great music, what else is there to worry about?

I have done this a few times, and I don't see that it's a big deal. Once the show starts, it's not like you're gabbing with the people around you anyway.

It maybe sucks if you get there too early and have to sit around by yourself before the band goes on. But once the lights go down, it's like going to any other show.

Maybe I'm strange, though. I work a job where I wind up alone on the road a lot. So I've gotten used to eating meals and going to bars by myself ... flying solo to a concert isn't much different than that.

I'm the same way (traveling for work)...I brought a book to read between sets last night :) NERD! (I know.) Plus I didn't feel too weird crying through man of the hour, wishlist, arc with no one there I knew watching me. It was a beautiful night, alone or not !!!
  • The first show I went to alone was Dave Matthews band winter 05 in Toronto. Almost every show since I've gone to alone. It was getting harder and harder finding people to go with, so I just stopped asking people. I'm not a huge fan of going to general admission shows alone, I like to have a seat if I'm at a show alone.

I'm going to NIN on tuesday in Toronto aswell as both of Eddie's shows in Toronto. All three I will be attending alone.
    Shows Attended:
    10/05/00 Toronto, 09/13/05 Hamilton, 09/19/05 Toronto,
    05/09/06 Toronto, 05/10/06 Toronto, 08/12/08 Toronto EV,
    08/13/08 Toronto EV, 08/21/09 Toronto, 05/10/10 Buffalo

you make a great point- it is much easier to go to a show lone if you have a seat for some reason

I had to go to Velvet Revolver/Alice in Chains by myself because my friends bailed. It wasn't too bad. I had free pit tickets and it was only a twenty minute drive anyway. plus I ran into some people I knew. But I couldn't see myself wanting to do it again.
