Pearl Jam - Third Man Records

TMR Vault special sale announcement states... "On June 9th, 2016, Third Man Records was humbled to welcome Pearl Jam for a performance in our Nashville Blue Room live venue. Kept secret until the absolute last moment, the crowd of only 250 included lucky Ten Club members, mayors, NBA superstars, country music royalty, and possibly even a few stowaways..."

Let me first state that I'm a 10C member and an "everything PJ" junkie/collector (depends on who you ask)! The TMR offer that allows 10C members to purchase a limited edition package got my heart racing but, ultimately left me feeling a bit sleazy.

Anyone have any insight into what message TMR was trying to convey when they named the types of people in attendance at this Nashville event for 250? "Lucky" 10C members...AWESOME...but the rest? ICK.

Unless for PJ/Vitalogy Fdtn philanthropic efforts, I cannot fathom why it's being touted that this event was attended by overpaid professional athletes, career politicians, and other music "royalty" who are already pandered to by mainstream marketing, mass media, Hollywood, clothiers, and the like.

Hmmm *scratching head*

I purchased this, primarily because 1) it's a straight to vinyl recording, and 2) it's a much cooler package, design, and value than anything 10C has given us recently. But I do kind of get where you're coming from. They've been this kind of band now for longer than they weren't. If you think about it, they kind of peaked with their anti-corporate motif in the mid-90's, and the last revolutionary thing I feel they did was the bootleg series in 2000. Hard to believe that was 16 years ago! If you compare those actions to what they do today ($40 dog collars, $200 backpacks, $40 t-shirts, limited quantity releases, corporate/private shows, etc.), they're definitely more of a money machine at this point, and I suppose that's debatable in terms of what it costs a band to operate these days vs. paying themselves and their crew/staff.

At one time, I was a "hardcore" fan - snatching up imported bootlegs whenever I could, freaking out when there was a concert/tour announcement, trying to find and ready every article or mention of them Rolling Stone, Spin, etc. I'm still a big fan of their music, and I'll continue to buy their albums, go to a concert when there's one near me, buy a poster from that show, and maybe a t-shirt now and then. I pre-ordered the re-release of No Code on Yield on vinyl, because at the end of the day, it's all about the music for me, and those are my two favorite records. I'm just not as easily excited about some of the other things they're doing now, and the music, while good, doesn't blow me away like it used to. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), I think I've experienced the band at their best, and in my opinion, don't think I'll ever have moments where the band affects me in the way they've done in the past. It's fine - I don't expect the band to have the same attitudes they did when they were in their twenties. I'm in my 40's, and I sure don't see the world the same way. :)

It was the ticket of tickets that night. From what I understand just about everyone in town was wanting to get in, but couldn't. I thought it was cool as hell to see Keith Urban, Margo Price, Chris Bosch, and the Mayor of Nashville. Those people were there and I was up next to the stage....cool as FUCK! and now thanks to TMR and 10C you can experience the show on vinyl.... what is not to like?

It just sounds as if they were stating (with a bit of humor) who was there, and trying to convey how special the evening was. Like it or not, Pearl Jam attracts celebrities, and has been for quite a while. To me, it did not come off as pandering to them. Sorry that you felt sleazy buying something that is, ultimately, a unique evening of music pressed to vinyl. What I want to know is: who were the stowaways??

The "mayor" a democrat, shunned the opening night of the four day Country Music Festival (CMA Fest)...a largely conservative leaning event that brings in tons of money for the city, for the PJ event at Third Man...hardly a "sellout" type of move.

The same logic of choosing PJ over the CMA fest could be made for Keith Urban and Margo Price who were at Third Man that night.

Bottom line is there was nothing commercial about it. Free tickets, free huggies, $5 beers, $50 posters (with only a 300 poster printing run), a great vault from Third Man. Not sure much profit is being made from the endeveour...simply all about the music and vinyl. Enjoy it!

Why would someone care tho? Its PJ. They hang with celebrities from time to time. Always have. Theyre more in touch with that world than people like to believe.
