Wire has the best intro of anything off Unforgettable Fire. Love that Edge riff intro.

A song about addiction, probably Daves own addiction especially in that second paragraph speaking in the third person.....

    I heard somebody fixed today
There was no last goodbyes to say
His will to live ran out
I heard somebody turned to dust

Looking back at what he left
A list of plans and photographs
Songs that never will be sung
These are the thinge he won't get done

I've seen the man use the needle, seen the needle use the man
I've seen them crawl from the cradle to the gutter on their hands
The fight a war but it's fatal, it's so hard to understand
I've seen the man use the needle, seen the needle use that man

Just one shot to say goodbye
One last taste to mourn and cry
Scores and shoots, the lights go dim
Just one shot to do him in

He hangs his head and wonders why
    Why the monkey only lies
But pay the pauper, he did choose
He hing his head inside the noose

I've seen the man use the needle, seen the needle use that man
I've seen them crawl from the cradle to the coffin on their hands
They fight a war but it's fatal, it's so hard to understand
I've seen the man use the needle, seen the needle in his hand
Cryptic writing on the wall, the beginning of the end
I've seen myself use the needle, seen the needle in my hand

One of the few pieces of music, along with Beethoven's 9th Symphony, that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end.

I think the best intro I've ever heard is the Rolling Stones' "Brown Sugar."

    My favorite David Bowie song:

The Cars had a lot of great intros:

And, like, apparently, absolutely nobody else on here, I am a huge fan of The Church. Their songs tend to open with a slow build-up or a layered feel:

Hmm. Actually, now that I think about it, this is one of my favorite intros -- to a song and to an album. It's simple and absolutely gorgeous.

He's opening for Glen Hansard at a number of shows on Glen's fall tour, and I can't wait to finally see him play solo.

I remember feeling so much anticipation for this band's debut. And then started listening to the first track and had that feeling build even more!

    No Shelter- RATM

Don't see how anyone likes that U2 song? Though I like The Edge's guitar playing I think he has better intros for other songs, no? One I thought was really cool, even With or Without you.

This song has probably one of THE best synth intros in rock music that most have never heard before. Once back in 1894 I was sitting in a car (after several herbal influences) I had this song turned really loud prepping for my very first RUSH concert GUP. The opening honking horns came on and I kept wondering who the hell is honking at me in a parked car. I had to laugh at myself only realizing that it was this damn song which is 1-2 with LVStrangiato as my #1 RUSH song.

    .........The buildings are lost
    In their limitless rise
    My feet catch the pulse
    And the purposeful stride

I feel the sense of possibilities
I feel the wrench of hard realities
The focus is sharp in the city..........

In NYC one had better stride with a sense of purpose or one may get the reality of being trampled over.

    Peace

Think back to the first time you heard that "Corduroy" intro on Vitalogy. Stuff of epic proportions.

For some reason I can't explain, Bang Tango's song Sweet Little Razor always comes to mind when the topic is intros. I have often pictured this song as an intro for a hockey team...the players skate in on the ice with flashing lights and at 0:45 the arena lights goes on with a bang together with fire, explosions and shit...

That riff that kicks in at the 0.21 mark if fucking gold! They always play it too fast live though, kind of kills the groove...
