Is there a better show than 7/11/2003?

I recently discovered this site a few months ago.. and boy am I glad I did! Before, the only access I had to live shows was through what they released in the stores. I have been downloading a lot of the 2006 shows and I am blown away by quite a few of them, but I still can't seem to find any shows that beat Boston 7/11/2003. The acoustic set opener, the rocking second disc, etc. In your opinion, are there any other shows that match the setlist, sound quality, and performance of the songs like the Boston show? I'd love to download some killer shows and I'd appreciate your advice. Thanks.
Whoa, chill bro... you know you can't raise your voice like that when the lion's here.

If you want my honest opinion, i think most shows from 2005 and pretty much all 2006 shows are better than Boston III. The concept was a good one and they played the hell out of the songs. But the first two Boston shows were tighter and higher energy than the final show.

P.S. I recommend anything from Las Vegas 07/06/06 to Zagreb 09/26/06; in my opinion those are the best shows the band has played in years.

The first CD of the Boston III concert contains one of the finest Pearl Jam sets ever. And almost every song is performed perfectly. The other two CD's are not so great, but still very solid. Ed's voice is obviously tired and there are some mistakes.

Yeah i'll agree with that. Although i believe the Santa Barbara '06 acoustic set is 5 times better.

  • The preset is outstanding and a cool concept, the rest isn't really anything to get TOO excited about. Long set and some rarities (Tremor Christ=ace, Faithfull=better, the best Breakerfall they've ever played aside from Buenos Aires, although Why Go is pretty disappointing), but towards the end the band really sound tired and half-arsed. Black and Jeremy are a bit strained, and don't get me started on the Sleater Kinney duets ...

All in all, a great idea trying not to repeat songs, but one thing this gig shows is how necessary one/some/all of the following songs are: Even Flow, Do the Evolution, Alive and Corduroy. Enough said.

    100% yes.

You reckon? I like it, but would choose this set over it any day!

I love them both, but the Santa Barbara set is so tight. Ed sounds great, perfect rendition of Waiting On A Friend, no screw-ups, and just a lovely atmosphere. I find myself going back to it a lot more.

    I agree.

And the 3 San Francisco 2006, and San Diego 2006 are also the nuts!

Absolutely! That version of Release from San Fran 3 is my favourite ever along with the L.A. night one version.

I definitely think the Santa Barbara acoustic set is awesome. The Low Light and Hard to Imagine in particular. San Fran 3 is another fave of mine as well.. also Lisbon (1&2). The reason I picked 7/11/03 as my favorite though is pretty much for the first two discs. I'll agree that Eddie's voice starts to fade on the third disc, but the energy on the second disc is palpable. I've never heard them play so fiercly as they did on Breakerfall->Brain of J->Spin the Black Circle. What a way to get the electric set going! The Nothing as it Seems is probably my favorite version too. And don't forget the All those Yesterdays and Footsteps in the first set.

I will now agree, after reviewing your suggestions, that there are a lot of 2006 shows that are "better" or atleast equal to this show, but what about any shows from previous years? Ideally, shows that have Matt Cameron behind the drums.

i actually just picked up this bootleg today. still listening to it right now. i don't know if i'd call it the best show, though it is an amazing experience. there's something off in the flow, beacuse of their desire to include every song maybe. each song is spot on, yes (and i totally dig the acoustic set)... but something about the mix, it's just too broad to be called their best show. not that you could ever have too much pearl jam, but there is something to be said about how you mix them.

i think the msg night 1 from the week prior (live in the garden dvd) is the best of that tour.

but i'm sticking with the gorge '06 (night 1) as the best... and not just beacuse i was there!

There's some killer shows from the 2000 tour, namely Lisbon again, Dublin, Manchester, Milan, Virginia Beach, Las Vegas, Memphis, Alberquerque (killer show!), Boise, Seattle II.
