Do certain cities make for better Pearl Jam shows ?

Listening to the boots for 26 years and seeing P.J. in various cities over that time here in the states. I have noticed that some cities bring more out of the band than others. Berlin, Manchester, anywhere in Italy, Chicago, Buffalo.

I think crowds in different cities are better than others, but in terms of performances I'm not sure. The band plays stellar shows wherever, especially in towns you wouldn't expect (Moline, Buffalo, Phoenix, Milwaukee)
    Milwaukee 2014
    MSG 2016 1&2
    Wrigley 2016 1&2
Eddie Vedder Obama Farewell Address 2017
    Eddie Vedder Louisville, KY 2017
    London 2018 1
    Wrigley 2018 1&2
    St. Louis 2020

Chicago and Buffalo? I saw the 2009 Chicago and 2013 Buffalo shows and while they were good I wouldn't say they were particularly special by PJ standards.
I'd say Boston, Hartford, NYC, and Philadelphia often bring special shows. There are also ones that are tough to predict ahead of time like Moline, Milwaukee, Greenville, and Quebec City.

They have had great shows in Atlanta, dating all the way back to '91 @ The Point. Two nights in '94 at The Fox were epic and '96, '98, & '03 were amazing.

It's hard to nail any specific city as having great Pearl Jam shows. Some cities - like Boston, NY, Philadelphia - have had several (at least 5 in each city) great shows, but they've also had their share of duds - MSG ! '98, Phllly '03, Boston 2006, etc. Same for Seattle and the aforementioned Atlanta. Since about 98% of PJ shows these days are pretty freaking incredlibe, getting to any show will be just fine!

It would be pretty cool if PJ had some special place where they play every year and you know the shows are gonna be great (think Dick's and Phish or DMB and the Gorge) - but I think that ship has probably sailed.

From a set list perspective I see a difference. Places they go to rarely get sets heavier on hits. I had that at Albany in 2003 and kind of at St. Paul in 2014. Seems like they mix it up more in places they play a lot.

Of course Moline was an exception. And I am sure there are others.

Whether that makes any show "better" is up to you. I have been to enough shows that hit-heavy is not my cup of tea.

Umm, yes. ALL of them. All cities make for great Pearl Jam shows. Also towns, townships, villages... really anywhere two or more people with ears gather. As long as it's on Earth.

After seeing two shows in Philly and hearing the boots, I think Philly brings out the best in PJ. I would also agree with the smaller shows mentioned earlier...Moline Milwaukee Greenville ect

well yea Philly of course

but really I think timing plays a big role as well. a show with a day or two off before or maybe a Friday or Saturday night. Greenville was Saturday night with 2 days off before. Was setup to be a high energy show. I know some on here belittled the NYC shows but those came off the 2 great Philly shows with only 1 day in between and they were Sunday and Monday nights. timing folks...it's huge

I can't disagree with this, Denver '14 was insane, and definitely in my top 5 shows.

Toronto 2 was a spectacular show as well, though it seems my city's gotten a rep for good shows over the years along with the others mentioned. Binonto certainly felt special as well.

Such a great show. Crowd was great right from the opener "elderly woman". Speaking of that song does anyone know the amount of times they've opened with that?

My .2 cents: Based on seeing shows in different cities going back to 1995, YES. All the time? No. But a LOT!
Some cities just elevate PJ's performances because the crowds are so hard core and into it that it feeds the band.
    Michael in Los Angeles
    First Show was 1995
I've lost count of how many afterwards.
Memorable funny show moments: The Halloween show with the whole band dressed as The Villiage People including Mike in assless chaps doing Yellow Ledbetter; Ed forgetting the words to "Betterman" in Vegas.
Ed looking upwards at the the giant cables coming to the center in old Forum (circular building) in LA and saying it looked like the worlds biggest asshole, just like Dick Cheney. :-)

As others have said, I think it has to do with the crowds in particular cities... of course, better crowds lead to better performances by the band. It's all interconnected. Also, some cities can have a shit crowd at one show and a great one at the next, almost like it just depends on the air that that day.
