Does this happen at every show?

I was at pj 5/22/06 in Detroit MI.At the end of the show Eddie appeared to be trying to make eye contact with everyone...he slowly and intensly stared across the whole place.slowly moving from one side to the other. Also as you can see by my name, next time around I want front row to any U.S. show..Is it possible? What would I need to do?Thanks

Not from personal experience or anything, but from reading about the experiences many people have had in meeting Eddie - he does look you straight in the eye while talking to you - so I'm sure he does it walking off stage as well.

As they say..... eyes are the windows to your soul.

I met him once and yeah...he holds the ol eye contact...the whole time. It's pretty cool and kind of unnerving as well. The closest I've been in concert is 6th row on two occasions and I have noticed that he scans the room a fair bit and it certainly does look like he's looking right at you on occasion. But..one never knows when you are jammed in there like a sardine. hahah

I'll have to agree with you there. On stage he's picking people out to throw them picks. He's finger pointing. And the best part is when he knows you're taking a photo of him - he'll look right at you. Not that I've been lucky enough or close enough to experience any of his pick tossing and finger pointing but I've seen plenty of pictures on this board where there's no doubt he's aware of the camera so he's definitely a stage man. And the stories about when people meet him are great too. He always has the time for them. It may not be a long time but he never seems to turn any one away. Gotta love him for that.

But I've read that meeting Eddie on a one to one is pretty intense because of the way he looks you in the eyes.

Actually, I don't think I've ever read any thing bad about an encounter with any of the boys. It would be interesting to ask any one if they've ever been snubbed or ignored by any of them. Just a thought.

I've met eddie twice, the 1st time was by far the best of them coz i talked to him for a little while, about how i came to like pearl jam when i was a youngster, because my sister liked them and i tried to be cool like her, (she was about 8 and a 1/2 yrs older then me.) Then as i got older, i appreciate them for what they are. And he told me to thank my sister for getting me into pearl jam. He also needed a piece of paper which he didnt have nor did his security, So i was more than happy to supply him with a piece. It was probably one of the most sincierest thank you's i have ever heard.

The next time i met him a few days later, i shook his hand, but he gave me a look like he recocgnised me. I dont know if that was the look, but it certainly seemed that way to me. But it too was a great moment.

I'm so happy I can contribute to this thread..

I don't know how often he does it..but..in Munich this year..he was looking at the crowd before they all took a bow..looks like he is scaning people...and yes..he does look you straight into the eyes (I was 2nd row)..he even blew me a kiss after he stared in my eyes for what seemed like a century..it had to be 3 seconds at least!! I wish I would have said something or maybe do something but I just looked him back..straight in the eyes too..and threw him a little flag I had..he put it in his back pocket..and then ran away and took a bow.
It is a little weird..but that is just because we had this wicked ideas. He is just a man. How many people looks you in the eyes everyday...I think the colour of his eyes makes it so piercing, though.

In Zagreb a year before..when he came off stage and we shook hands..it was very brief..but again looked me in the eyes and did a thing with an eyebrow - which I can't quite understand. It was like he was surprised but then turned into Hello..He even did a nod with his head. It felt very warm and so did his hand. It is tattoed in my mind forever. Because It was a first time (the show and everything) my knees were melting and I can't even imagine how I looked like..but I know it gave me chills..half a meter away from me and looking me straight into the eyes. Thank you Eddie! I was so respectfull and humble...

2/2 I still can't believe it. I think that it is nice that he looks people in the eyes. Seems more real.

Hahah. Yeah..that's true. Me and a buddy met them all in Newfoundland when Pearl Jam did the Canadian Tour. We were at the same hotel and had the awesome chance to see them as we were sitting and having a beer on an indoor patio at the hotel that was right beside the main elevators. They were all great..but especially Mike and Eddie....The eddie part was funny because we gave him a wave and he stopped and motioned for us to come on over...so we did...and I shook his hand and he didn't let go..and I didn't let go....so for the 2 minutes we chatted, I was standing there holding his hand. hahaha. My buddy was standing there looking down at our hands like..WTF? Haha. I'm a happily married man..but I was as giddy as a school girl over this ;-). Anyways...we discussed the length of my fandom (since '91) and he remarked how much he liked a sweater i had on..and it was all I could do to not give it to him and ask him to wear it on stage. hhaha. Anyways..it was as great of an experience as I could ever ask....he and they all...were very friendly and extremely gracious. Hope you all get to experience the same at some point. Thing is...now I feel like nothing can ever measure up to that Pearl jam wise. hahahha

John Wetton from ASIA said that in the mid 80's...he was sure smart! ;)

I caught Ed's eye at the Bridge last year, but that was because I was looking at him through my binoculars from the 6th row and then yelled to the people around me - "he's got a safety pin holding his collar closed!! That's so humble!!". Kinda gave me the hairy eyeball...but then again, maybe he wasn't even looking at me. It felt like it though. I know Mike saw me because he waved....Neither of these moments invade my dreams...It was just something that happened - Or did it?

Its almost kind of unnerving when he's singing something powerful and stares right at you.
I think its mostly Mike and Ed with the "looks at the crowd".
Mike is all about having fun, Ed, to me, seems so much more serious.
Just another reason to love the band.

My friend was at a PJ show working at the venue and she walked out the wrong exit and was standing infront of Eddie. She was on the phone to me at the time so she put him on the phone. We talked for a few minutes and then he put my friend back on. Sooo cool. Then I met him at another PJ show and he remembered me!! I was sooooo happy. He was wearing sunnies so I wasn't sure if he was looking straight at me but you could tell that he was genuinely interested in what I was saying.
  • sat and talked with ed for along time, plus he tried to get in the stall before i finished taking a leak, rock stars ...jeez
anyway, usually in front or near,i'm sure he gave a nod and a wink,to me in hawaii.but? who knows.he was definitly scanning the place.i think he just likes seeing people have a good time.

I know what you mean exactly. He looked straight at me for a while during Nor More at Lolla and I just couldn't look away. I was mouthing the words/singing along and he was just staring straight at me. His eyes wouldn't move. It was kind of weird and amazing at the same time. I'll never forget the way he stared. his eyes are so blue.

    Toronto 6-28-2003, Molson Amphitheatre.

After Rockin in the Free World where Ed threw 2 tambourines into the crowd my wife turned to me almost in tears saying "why doesn't he ever throw me anything, I'm even wearing a Rock for Choice t-shirt". We are usually 2nd to 4th row for concerts and for this show we are 2nd row dead center.

Anyways I tell her that they'll come back out for another encore so you never know. Sure enough the boys come back with Baba and Ed has 2 more tambourines in hand. As he scans the crowd I'm standing behind my wife and I make eye contact with Ed, pointing down at my wife. He sees my gesture and leans over and gently tosses her a tambourine! :)

A brief few seconds but very cool none the less.

    Thanks Ed!

  • I was standing about the fifth row back on Stone's side in Wembley and Ed came over to the front of the stage and looked in the eyes of everyone in the section. He was so intense as he scanned and looked at each one of us eye-to-eye, almost as if he was looking into our souls. It was really awesome.
  • I was front row centre at the 3rd Sydney concert last year. Mike certainly gave the people in the front much more eye contact than Eddie, but during DTE he gave me a look and a smile, and poked his tongue out as he was going off and doingthe screaming part. The smile he gave me was unreal. He knew we were havibg a great time because we were singing and dancing like mad during the whole concert, but you could tell from that smile that he was also having a great time.

I can't wait till they come out here again. I have opened a savings account, and put a little money aside each pay to get to as many shows as I can. THIS BAND ROCKS.

I noticed this at Chicago 1 last year...I think during one of the longer jams, like Alive or Porch, Ed lit up a cigarette and just took a stroll around the stage...it was kind of theatre in the round, so he took his time looking around at the crowd behind the stage, then he strolled over to my side (I was in the third balcony, right next to the stage), and he shaded his eyes with his hand and looked up at all of us for the longest time. My friend and I went nuts and started waving at him like mad, and he waved back...whether it was directly to us or to the whole crowd I'm not sure, but that was a totally awesome thing to do! I love how he interacts with the audience.

  • I would love to have met Mike or Ed, but unfortunatly I haven't. I have "met" Stone, if you can really call it a meeting. It lasted only a few seconds, but it was pretty cool. A friend and myself were one of maybe 15 people waiting outside of a little club before a Brad show on their 2002 tour, and the tour bus was parked out front. We didn't know they were in the bus, we thought they were probably inside. But they came out, one by one, saying hi to all of us, Regan gave everybody in line some Brad stickers. Stone came by and shook hands with everybody, and said hi. So it was cool, he shook my hand and said hello, but he wasn't really making eye contact with anybody, it was like he was kind of shy about it. When he shook my hand it looked like he was reading my T-shirt or something, even though it was a plain shirt with no writing.

So that was a cool experience, followed by what was probably the best show I've ever seen. And I was against the stage right in front of Stone, I could have pulled off one of his shoes if I had felt like being an idiot. But he didn't look at anybody, or interact with the crowd, he just looked at the other guys in the band, down at his pedals, or at his guitar. The only emotion I saw out of him the whole night was between songs he was handing the roadie the acoustic he had been playing and switching off for an electric, and somebody yelled "MANKIND!!" which made him start cracking up. He also seemed to perk up when he was playing drums on "Revolution"
