The Who Hits 50 (51) tour

halvhalv Posts: 701
Anyone else had the chance to see The Who this tour? I went last night in Vancouver and was blown away! I was apprehensive as the last time I saw them was 20 years when John Entwistle was still alive but I thought the show was pretty incredible. I couldn't have been happier with the set list, especially the The Rock into Love Reign O'er me section. And both Daltrey and Townsend were in top form. Daltrey struggled a little with Love Reign but he completely nailed the scream at the end of Won't Get Fooled Again. It was a goosebump moment. I think The Who have a chance to steal the weekend at Desert Trip this October.

I'll see them in Portland tomorrow night. Pumped!

Would love to see the Desert Trip, but A) sold out, and B) holy crap on ticket prices. Fortunately, after tomorrow I will have already seen The Who, Dylan, Neil. Would really like to see McCartney, Stones and Waters though!

So, I'll preface this by saying I'm 39, not old enough to have seen these guys in their prime. However, I just spent 2+hours with goosebumps watching Daltrey and Townshend rock their asses off. What a treat, so happy I saw this tonight. Have seen PJ do Baba a few times, but the original showed how it's really done. Just awesome, so much fun.

Shit. Saw this earlier and meant to reply. If you went to tonight's show, you already know the answer. If not, they are called Slydigs, outta Manchester, England. Pretty cool sound. Mid-60s, Beatles influence. Kinda sound like Oasis, but different. Definitely worth checking out. I dug 'em. They hit the stage about 7:30. Enjoy the show!

Yes, The Who and the Small Faces infamously toured Oz and NZ in the 60s.

I am a big fan of Steve's singing and I'm sure I'll enjoy watching this, thanks!

Yes, I have that very video on VHS. It's finally coming out on DVD. David Gilmore plays on it. Not long ago Pete said something about how much he enjoyed working with Gilmore.

That would be my guess how Ed got Save It for Later. This clip has Dave Wakeling telling the story of how Pete called him because he couldn't work out the song's tuning. I'd read an interview where he talked about it but in this he goes on to tell about meeting Pete and hearing him perform it. The interviewer is kind of obnoxious but once you get past that it's a cool story.

That harmonica player was amazing, especially on Eyesight to the Blind. I've never heard anybody play harmonica like that, practically like a lead instrument.
