Thanks GA campers for trashing the property

I'm a lifelong Columbia native and love the Colonial Life Arena - hurts bad to see the area around the GA entrance trashed with half-full beer cups, cigarette butts, food wrappers and other garbage. At least pick up after yourselves. So much for environmental activism.

    Are you surprised?

Silly me, I actually am. I just figured people (PJ fans or not) are better than that.

Then again, I still see assholes dropping their cigarette butts on the street from their cars.

How does one do that with any semblance of conscience?

And they'll justify why they did it as well.

    F**king slobs.

If you know a smoker... and their ashtray is nice and clean... they toss their butts out after finishing their smoke. Basically saying, "F**k you, everybody."

I try to get into it with people I see do it. I want to pick up the butt and stuff it up their nostril. Then slap them.

Doesn't the staff at the arena clean it up? I'm not saying I'm okay with litterbugs or that kind of inconsiderate behaviour - it's definitely irritating when people act like assholes - but it's not like it was in the woods or something and harming the environment, is it? It's outside an arena, where there is normally someone who they pay to pick up garbage.

That's kind of like if I were to toss my trash next to my trash can at work and thinking that the woman who comes in at night will pick it up...will pick up after me.

Seems rude, ridiculously so. The environmental side doesn't have much to do with it really; it's about courtesy, you know? Just not something I could or would do.

I don't think the staff they pay will clean up the outside grounds. Where the OP was talking about probably will fall to City of Columbia workers.

Well right. It's just like that: littering because you know someone else will pick it up. It's not appropriate or considerate behaviour at all, but I was indeed just responding the environmentalist comment. I don't see how that factors in when the trash is necessarily going to be picked up, probably that very same night.

I worked at the New World in Tinley Park, IL in the mid 2000s. There is an army of employees cleaning up after every show. We'd go through the lawn in a fire line and pick up anything other than grass. It happens at every arena, stadium, amphitheater, etc. Is this worth a thread?

Happens at every show. Not unique to pearl jam fans, not unique to this arena. It's deplorable and frankly the venues should refuse to open the doors until the people who've been in line have tossed their trash in a bin (which the venue would have to provide, of course.) I think it was on this board somewhere that someone posted a video about the clean up crews that get called in for festivals, they salvage whatever they can of the equipment left behind for charity and sort the remaining rubbish for trash or recycling.

Fairly certain it's a considerable contributor to the great Pacific garbage patch, or whatever.
