Any mad would announce a farewell tour to increase ticket sales. I bet they'd play MSG like 8-10 times

Remember when the Binaural track listing came out and that song was to signal the end of Pearl Jam?

Play 10-25 three hour shows a year. Switch up the set lists. Release cool merch. Blow our minds. Rinse and repeat.

We go through this every tour or album since Binaural. Everyone thought Parting Ways was a sign. Then they thought The End was a sign.

If our only "evidence" is the walkout song they picked for this tour, let's assume that the band DID pick it because they decided before the tour that this was going to be it. Don't think that's an extremely strange way to do it?

There's a reason relationships don't end with the couple immediately going on a vacation together.

...to which someone might respond "but the guys don't hate each other."

Right, which would only make it all the more strange that they would still enjoy working together but conspire to (1) end their lucrative professional relationship, but (2) only after touring together for four plus months while also (3) picking some song as a "hint" of said ending relationship, the only deducers of said hint being their thousands of soon-to-be heartbroken fans (whom for some reason, they thought it appropriate to torture with said hint). Whew. Weird.

They don't have to break up or be done or announce a thing. PJ could exist via this webpage or via random show announcements when they feel like playing, various catalog releases, album reduxes etc etc etc ad infinitum you know I'm right. They could - for all intents and purposes - "quit" and we'd never know it. They work four months a year now, and it could be two months a year going forward, and they make millions doing it. Just by having the band still "exist."

So, could they break up? Of course.

Will they any time soon? Nope.

And if they were going to, would they doing it by dropping a "hint" like this? Nope again.

Did I just ask myself questions and then answer them? Yep.

Bottom line: you're reading too much into something that's not there. Go see Pearl Jam before it's too late. ;)

Completely agree with this. Just because Ed sings on this song and he decided to cover it the day REM retired means that the song is the official song of retirement?

Didn't Eddie contribute vocals to this song? I think people are reading too much into it.

Eddie's on the track. Shouldn't read much more into it than that.

Great response! To all the others - you're stating the obvious when you say I'm reading into it. Glad we could have this chat though! Haha!!

Yeah. Just like Binaural ending with a song called "Parting Ways" was the end. And just like Backspacer ending with a song called "The End" was the end.
