This was the model done by Kalvin Lee for the corrupt politician scene in the video. True then. Truer today. Be safe everyone.

Happy Friday all. Here's a striking DTE piece of fan art that I came across on-line.

REVIEW: PEARL JAM: Do The Evolution

By P Hayden 11 hours ago

    The Book of Evolution Baby!

When you think about the majority of music videos you think; “Oh that’s a nice dance, bet I can’t ever do that.” Or “Wow that person actually has a 12 pack stomach, how the hell?”

What you rarely think is; “Sweet mother of god, that was an intense roller coaster ride for the senses, showing some of the lowest and darkest moments in history and our possible future!”

Well that’s what you’re likely to have thought if you’ve seen ‘Do the Evolution’ by the mighty Pearl Jam, one of the most ground breaking music videos of all time!! (Yes, I used 2 exclamation marks there, that’s how exciting it is)

Now it has evolved one step further, in the form of the phenomenal; ‘Pearl Jam: Art of Do the Evolution’ written by Joe Pearson (with additional writing from Terry Fitzgerald and Brad Coombs) and let me just say this in full caps locked joy… I BLOODY LOVE THIS BOOK!

From the first introduction from Joe Pearson stating how this wonderous animated journey first came to life in 1998… yeah 1998!

Throughout this book you are not only treated to behind the scenes access of the creation of the video, meeting with the band and with comic book royalty Todd Mcfarlane on the art direction etc but one of the things I truly enjoy about this book is it follows the beautiful chaotic look and feel of the video.

Full of sketches, storyboards held down with tape, concept art, side notes, stills from the video, snippets of lyrics, stories of how it came to life.

It’s a powerful piece of art that stands perfectly with an incredible animated music movie with a message that will always be relevant!

I cannot stress this enough… I BLOODY LOVE THIS BOOK!

    SCORE: 5/5

Pearl Jam: Do the Evolution takes its next step into comic shops this October.

I hope the cover is matte and not glossy like the mockupshots show.

Coffeatable books should have matte covers.

Good news. The book went to the printer a week ago so we are on track for the announced release date this October! I'll be meeting with the IDW PR team to discuss promos, special offers, etc.

One cool item we might be offering are clear book marks using sections of the short's actual film print. This is the print shot on camera by the animation studios in Korea and then sent to us in L.A. for the video's final edit.

Below a sample from another production of an animation cell bookmark.

Here's the IDW in-house ad for the "Pearl Jam: Art of Do the Evolution" book. It's getting real.

A number of you have reached out to me to ask about the possibility of my personally signing/drawing for them in the upcoming book. I'm up for it, but to be realistic, with the Trump Virus raging and growing daily, I'm not going to get anywhere near a post office until there's a vaccine.

But I am in talks with IDW about a couple of special editions of the book that we can offer on order direct from them. One would have the Do the Evolution film strip bookmarks and one could have both the bookmarks and a signed/drawn autograph by me.
I could sign/draw on a hundred or so of these limited editions and IDW can make them available by direct order. If this is appealing to you let me know and I'll broach it ASAP with the publisher.

Another update from my conversation today with the book's publisher, IDW. The book is at the printers and I'll get my first set of them by the end of the month! The book's initial print run will be 3,500 copies. And all is a go for the October release.

  • Is 3500 a big run or small run... will it be available in swedish book stores?

I know PJ had all-but burned their bridge with MTV at this point, but man, how wasn't this nominated for a VMA? It got nominated for a grammy but lost to Madonna's Ray of Light if I'm not mistaken. Not that those type of awards really matter. But man, the video is such a masterpiece.

Ray of Light was directed by Jonas Åkerlund and is a great iconic video, so don't see a problem with it winning.

It also features a quick shot of the swedish lottery game show "bingolotto", to my knowledge Pearl Jam didn't dare to do that for DTE.

Oh yeah, Ray of Light is a great video. And 90's Madonna is the hottest Madonna. But for me, Do the Evolution and it's music video are the best thing PJ has ever released, so I wish it had more notoriety.

Okay, here's the current and final word on the state of "special edition" Art of DTE books. IDW is under new management and they don't have it on their "radar" now to do special editions. But I'm free to personally offer them, so I will. I can order copies direct from them and assemble the special edition copies.
What I will need from anyone interested is what version you want, your full mailing address and then a Paypal payment in October when the books are in my hand at my studio and I can prep and ship them. I will confirm that date on this site in in a personal e-mail.
So you can reach out directly to me at my animation studio e-dress and give me your orders now or before Oct. 1, so I'll know how many books to order and how to prep them.

    epochinkanimation@gmail.com

If you don't get a confirmation from be about your order info within a few days, let me know here on this site.
The book retails from IDW for $40 plus shipping and handling. Here's the breakdown of what I can offer for the books and for what price.

    SPECIAL EDITON 1
A signed copy of the book
    $50 plus $10 shipping/handling

    SPECIAL EDITON 2
The book and a cell bookmark made from the original filmstrip, $55 plus $10 shipping

    SPECIAL EDITION 3
The book and a sketch by me
    $55 plus $10 shipping

    SPECIAL EDITON 4
A signed copy of the book , bookmark
    $60 plus $10 shipping/handling

    SPECIAL EDITON 5

    $60 plus $10 shipping/handling

    SPECIAL EDITON 6
A signed copy of the book, bookmark, sketch

I was planning a book tour with signings, galley shows with signing, but unfortunately that's all on longterm hold while all live under The Plague so this is the best I can currently offer.
