Your Favorite Psychedelic/Space Rock Bands.

Actually am looking for your thoughts on lesser known psychedelic/space rock bands. We're probably all familiar with Pink Floyd etc., but what about lesser know bands that appeal strongly to you?

A few of mine:

Spacemen 3: I'm just getting into these guys having learned about them from a friend and later found out that Spacemen member Sonic Boom helped have put out ...

...Blair 1523, "Beautiful Debris". One of my favorites. Their only full album, it includes their initial EP and some other cuts. The album, "Beautiful Debris" is just that- beautiful debris. A wonderful mix of post-psychedelic pop and some fine longer pieces.

Dimentia 13: "Mirror Mind" is a nice blend of psychedelia, trash and space pop.

Carlton Melton: A hard band to categorize. Some of their stuff is my favorite meditation verging on zoning music. (But they also know how to rock. Two of the guys were in the powerful, harder rocking Zen Guerilla.) Side C of "Out To Sea" is "music as medication" for me. And Andy is the coolest drummer I know.

Would love to hear about your favorites and what makes them great!

Wild times, for sure. I only got into Hawkwind a few years ago myself. Read about them in one of Henry Rollins books and was amazed to have missed out for so long!

For me I would have to say this band ruled the genre of funk psychedelic in the 70's-mid 80's. That would be PARLIAMENT FUNKADELIC ....those were the days and shows of psychedelic herbs being passed with the shredding of Garry Shider and Micheal Hampton the band rocked Maggot Brain to the Cosmic Slop....

I'm not huge on his other albums, but John Martyn's Solid Air is one of my absolute favorite psychedelic folk-rock albums. Not quite what you're asking because of the folk factor, but it's still got the psychedelic thing going on, as well as a groove, and it's just soooooo good. :)

Spiritualized are very good. I personally think their best album is Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating Through Space (good enough that this is the one Spiritualized album that I own on vinyl).
