Is Rage metal? FNM? Clutch? Ministry? Kyuss/Queens? Any Seattle bands qualify? Mötley Crüe or any glam act? Jethro Tull?

I consider Clutch to be a metal band. Crue's first two albums? Sure. Anything after that? probably not.

Come on, folks. Let's go. 7 more before I get to post my next one...

Opeth: Blackwater Park was an amazing album from a great Swedish melodic death metal band. They're now more proggy, but this album really showcased the genre. The album is full of epic songs, including The Drapery Falls.

Great choice jeffbr! Blackwater Park is my favorite Opeth album and one of my favorite metal albums as well.
I considered this one to be my next choice.....
Truly one of the best progressive metal albums made, I'd put it above almost everything Dream Theater has made. Most of the album are all huge concert hits for Opeth, it's like their Moving PIctures by RUSH. Plus it features the Leper Affinity which I find one of the most evil sounding songs, even though I don't most of their music it is the album that opened the door for me to start listening to music this heavy.

    Megadeth - Countdown to Extinction.

Yeah, some people say that they "sold out" with this record but it was a solid, well written, rocking effort.

It was the first time I had heard the phrase "Worldwide Suicide".

Also, that album would have been number one on Billboard if it weren't for Billy Ray Fucking Cyrus.

    Confused...

List shows Attaway77's pick as Spineshank, but the post says Bury Your Dead. I think this is how it should be.

Anyway, I was going to say Anthrax - Among the Living but since Jason P just listed Persistence of Time a couple posts back, I'll go with with the best album to feature the greatest metal vocalist of all time.

    Dio - Holy Diver.

    Quiet Riot.....Metal Health

    http://youtu.be/Dahu7kP4YJA

Sort of forgotten band but I can remember back in the early 80's they were in heavy rotation on MTV. Then became very popular on Headbangers Ball, an album laden with stiff heavy riffs.

    Peace

    31. White Zombie.....La Sexorcisto: Devil Music vol. I

I can recall buying the cd but not opening till I was to go on a trip from DC to NC to see a girl. Left the city and got stuck in traffic started playing the album. Wow was I ever blown away with the groove the different songs produced. Yeah call it groove metal.....we didn't move a mile in 5 hours. I played it over and over till I started singing the songs....people were looking at me as if I was nuts having such a good time stuck in traffic. Finally the traffic broke then came up on the scene....and it was one of those look away accidents that makes one cringe. Basically, a Lincoln got caught between a dump truck and a garbage truck which reduced the car to a Mini. The person driving the car didn't make but this album still rocks today with all the scratches I now have on it. I need a new one it skips too much. I see it's hard for me to be brief.

Good call on White Zombie at #31. Used to listen to it with my son on his way to pre-school. Still one of our favorites.

I'm adding Ministry-Psalm 69 at 32. Have never seen a metal show that surpassed their's at Lollapalooza in '92. Bought the CD the next day.

We listened to this album a ton. Great album. Eat the Rich is another song that I recall fondly. I'm going to have to look at repurchasing. I was thinking of placing this one on here, but I wasn't sure anyone would have a clue what it was.

    Good pull, man! Good pull.

Nice! I didn't know if others would know these guys, but they really were a part of my early 80's so I tossed it in the mix. I ended up picking up a used copy of the record last year, and play it from time to time these days. It still sounds good to me!

And I agree that this list is solid- good rules set up by OP and good participation as well.

Also, I like how some have added a video just to give us a taste of what that bands album maybe about especially if it's one not well known. That's going to be my next choice a sort of unknown metal band I saw back in 91-92'. Post people so I can get to them.

    Peace

I fkn love this thread… I love all music, even as I have gotten older I've grown to appreciate every genre. But, Metal? That's the shit I loved first as a kid and still do to this day…. It's such a beautiful noise that many will never understand what it means or how good it feels… Thank you OP for starting this up….
