Favourite Australian Tour Moment? Nearly One Year On

I can't believe that it has nearly been one year since Pearl jam toured this Great Southern Land.

I can't pin-point it down to just one. I went to Sydney 1 & 3, and opening with both Release & Betterman were magical, the "experiment" of Nothingman in Sydney 1, Tagging daughter with Beds are burning and also covering I Got You and this sounds completley strange but the atmosphere during Last kiss which Eddie described as a "camp fire" was pretty special.

What is your favourite moment?

Sydney 1 & 3 were special shows but nothing beats the greatest musical experience of my life, Newcastle :)

Leaving band encounters in Adelaide and Perth aside... I'm not even sure I really see them as highlights above some of my other experiences.

It's gotta be the picnic amongst new friends at the Myer Music Bowl, before the 2nd Melbourne show.

Met the band a bunch of times already in 03, so I'm over the whole ohmygod thing. The shows themselves... I enjoy them as much as anyone else, and Newcastle really was something, the occassion was over and above my latest Europe shows and 03, but this tour was all about feeling part of a wider collective for the first time. Well, one this intense, anyway.

Sydney 1 was a nice meet and greet. But I was still at work, and wasn't quite in touring mode yet. The catchup at Bridie O'Rileys before Melb 1 was great after missing out on Brissie, and so was the post show madness at the bar at Crown Casino. But the goon and cheese picnic at the Music Bowl... that's when I just FELT it for the first time.

Not to say the Queensbury (Melb), the Premier (Newy), Gus's place (Adelaide) and the Subi car park weren't tops. They were. But the feeling I got at that picnic. Jeez.

If I have to nominate a show moment, I want to say it's something to do with Newy, but it's really when Gus did SOLAT on the mic for the first time at Melb 1. And after that it's Ed's shoutout to the 3 Interrogators, the Syd 3 Betterman opening, Ivan's request and Ed's shoutout to the van guys in Adelaide, and the I Got You dedication to the travelling bunch in Perth.

Scratch all that. The best moment was the look on this girl's face. She's on a wheelchair. She needed a ticket to get into Adelaide 2, with no money, so she was just hanging around at the car park with a sign, hoping for something to happen.

I had a spare after making an upgrade. I'd been talking to her for a while that afternoon.

The look on her face when I offered it to her. Mate. That made the entire tour.

Met her again after the show. Felt good that she got in and got a tambo, but eh, as much as I'm happy that she's happy, there's mates I needed to say goodbye to :(

Brissie 2 for me, Ed coming out for Slow Night So Long with KOL, he was just so pumped and jumping round smashing the absolute shit out of those tambourines.

After Ed finished playing a song coming over to me reaching out and almost falling over to hand me his guitar pic.

Picture in a Frame was brilliant.

    KICK OUT THE JAMS MOTHERFUCKER!!!!!!!

stone laughing at me for fucking up the words to Yellow Ledbetter(like anyone knows them anyway)

and at the end as they were leaving the stage Jeff tossing down his sweatband to me.

  • I wasn't at any of these shows but seeing each setlist the day after was joyous!

I'll have to get some more of the boots.

The train ride back from Newy the next morning and realising how many good moments in my life the band have given me and pledging to myself to attend more than 4 concerts next time around and make more of an effort to meet fellow hardcore fans!!

Oh and Nothingman (S3), betterman opener, I got You. The look on my brothers face when they played Ledbetter at Syd 3.

I'll ride the wave where it takes me.

As good as all the shows were, it would have to be meeting so many awesome people from all over the world and around Oz..... every single one of them just happened to be as mad flaming crazy about this band as I am!!! Funny that

oh i forgot the whole of the front few rows with their arms round each other just swaying back and forth during Black at brissie 1.

with ed commenting at the end "I've never seen that before." the whole band where really moved after that song.

Waking up in my hotel room in Melbourne, looking around, seeing like 8 people packed into this neat little room meant for 2 people.
