Lahore Attack

This is beyond horrifying. More than 50 dead, mostly women and kids, targeted in a public park on a Sunday evening. Unreal.

LAHORE, Pakistan — A suicide bomber killed at least 52 people, mostly women and children, at a public park in the Pakistani city of Lahore on Sunday, government officials and police said, striking at the heart of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's political base of Punjab.

The blast occurred in the parking area of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park, a few feet away from children's swings. Around 150 people were injured in the explosion, officials said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast. Pakistan, a nuclear-armed nation of 190 million people, is plagued by a Taliban insurgency, criminal gangs and sectarian violence. Punjab is its biggest and wealthiest province.

Eyewitnesses said they saw body parts strewn across the parking lot once the dust had settled after the blast.

The park had been particularly busy on Sunday evening due to the Easter holiday weekend.

was he out of the country doing diplomacy again?

    shame on him.

even if he was at the white house, shame on him for letting this happen..."

Horrible, hard to find the words. So much evil in this world.
  • How come no one has posted who they think is responsible yet?
Are you waiting for the press to report it before discussing it?
Targeted christians during the holiday at a park - it has ispiss written all over it.
I give it by the end of the day for it to be reported that ispiss lay claim.

Could be Isis, could be taliban given the recent violence and unrest in Pakistan. Don't see how it makes a difference which it is.

    No difference.
Just wondering why a tragedy of this scale that is clearly made to make a statement is not claimed yet.

The link I posted in the OP keeps getting updated. Death toll now at 72.

A splinter group of the Pakistani Taliban — Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan Jamaatul Ahrar (TTP-JA) — claimed responsibility for the attack.

"Members of the Christian community who were celebrating Easter today were our prime target," TTP-JA spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan told NBC News from an undisclosed location while using an Afghan cell number.

He added: "We didn't want to kill women and children. Our targets were male members of the Christian community."

Speaking at the mortuary, rescue worker Pervez Nazir told NBC News that the dead included 36 children. Only 10 were Christian, with the other 26 Muslims.

These deaths were tragic and horrible for sure. But we would do well to remember that it goes both ways. Many have been killed in the name of the Christian god. Fanatic followers of religions of most types are responsible for millions upon millions upon millions of deaths.

    Really?

Can you cite the last Christian attack on innocent Muslims that comes even remotely close to this?

No, I'm talking about how religious people of all sorts have killed millions in the name of their make believe gods. Christians have done that. But let's remember, not all Muslims are ISIS, not all Christians are Westboro Baptists.

The Crusades back in medieval times... for sure.

I said it a while back: in the modern era, the comparison isn't even close.

People have referred to abortion clinic attacks and events like that, but in my mind... these horrific acts on the large scale and all the other 'smaller scale' acts such as publicly stoning women place the religion of Islam in a league of its own.

    It's not even close.

    * But this is not meant to give any religion a pass. They all exist because children are incapable of critical thought and are very impressionable. Just as people are brainwashed in the various cults we have seen over time, so to have people, on a massive scale, been brainwashed into believing something that absolutely defies logic, reason, and science. The brainwashed children become adults and pass their indoctrinated beliefs on to their children. A cycle that is very challenging to break given the power of the mind.

It's very hard to break that cycle because as soon as you suggest from your freemind that religion has no place in any mind you are criticized for shitting on a persons beliefs.
And so it goes, on and on.

But you can't separate the past from the present. It's a continuum. It's all connected. Radical ISIS actions did not just spring up out of the ground like weeds in the spring.

    Not in my mind.

There might be a link between actions in the 1400s and those we currently bear witness to... but how does that explain the other terrorist actions we see that are directed at peaceful Muslims?
