This product was a benefactor of hype that preached and sold an idea that this device will miraculously enhance all music listening experiences. It has a cumbersome product design, 'expensive' prices for the player and albums, and most people that have listened to it don't agree that their music sounds vastly better when played through it. Hence, there is little to no demand for it.
I've made purchases that I've regretted, we all likely have, but this Pono player needs to significantly lower it's pricing criterion across the entire system to gain any sort of customer loyalty.

I also think they need to lower the price point for the albums. Why would I pay $20 for these albums when I can buy a used CD on eBay for under $5 and rip a FLAC without noticing a difference in sound quality? If they lower the price by half it would be worth investing in the technology. Until then it's going to be at best a niche product that appeals to a very small core group.

I would even argue that the biggest advantage of a high def portable music player isn't it's ability to play HD audio files, it's the quality of the DAC (digital to audio converter) in the device. I think you get better sound with quality dac's, but the advantage of high res audio is minimal.

I defer to your expertise on that. You're probably right.
Also the limited memory and huge file size somewhat defeats the purpose of a portable player. People are spoiled by having thousands of songs on their iPod. It's like they can't figure out exactly what Pono is supposed to be and how to market it correctly. Is it a portable player with limited storage? Is it a high end piece of equipment meant to be connected to a home audio set up? I think it's confusing to people.

Given the fact that it's made in the precise shape that makes it impossible to carry in a pocket, I have to assume it is meant for the home... and yet it's marketed as portable. Yeah, portable in a bag that you have to carry, lol .... If I had one, I wouldn't be taking it out of the house. My mp3 player is maybe a quarter of the size of a deck of cards and holds thousands of songs. THAT'S a portable music device. If it was still 1996, then the portability of the pono would blow our minds, lol. That said, I'm really surprised that just the PJ branding combined the fact that there are only 500 of these and there is the Neil Young factor (even if Pono is a flop, it will go down in the pages of rock history), I'm surprised not a single person here wants to buy this for $350. I'd probably get it just for those reasons, like memorabilia, if I could afford, which I can't.

i love mine. i rotate PJ high def boots but i use it at home exclusively. if you are in the market for great sound. this is an awesome price to pay for this player. if you are buying for collectability then i am not sure. something i really never considered when buying it. i don't even treat mine as well as i probably should.

I'm not surprised. It's tour time! Money is being spent on shows and travel!

Not by me unfortunately. I just live in Vancouver, which necessarily makes me poor, lol.

I mainly use mine at home and for use in the vehicles while out driving. I laugh when people balk at the word portability when they're using their iPod with full size headphones or one of those plug in speakers that are the size of a brick. Love it or hate it this is a great price. And yes, I do very much enjoy mine. Pono World music prices could be better....I won't argue that.

Yeah, I guess it would be great for a car too (if you have a decent stereo system in your car).
