4 TIMES in a WEEK?!!! @#$%%^^&*&^$%#$#@....jealous, jealous, jealous, very jealous, even more jealous, I am turning green here, aggrrrrhhhhhhhhhhh.

    Lucky you *sigh*
Why not be mediocre and be the best at it that you can be?
  • I really dig the humanitarian work Bono does internationally in the poorest areas of the world. I commend him for that, and more is desperately needed. But...U Jam?? Come on. If you were there or have seen footage of the show, it's easy to see Ed was not very comfortable up there. I'm sure the lame lyric changes to RITFW weren't his idea. They should have just played the song like normal. Those lyrics and that song speak for themselves. I mean, the song IS about social responsibility already!! And I wonder how it felt for Bono to be on stage with a REAL band who can actually play their instruments as musicians, (the edge) not included...HA!

I'd agree that Bono is to be commended for what he does about the poverty issue but I have to say that he really should NEVER stand next to Ed if he ever wants anyone to call him a rock singer again. Ed is a rock singer, Bono just looks like a poser next to him...

Well, personally I think people should leave Bono alone, he is a fantastic singer and frontman and BTW absolutely suited PJ on stage!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone who denies that knows nothing about rock music!

Well said. Saw U2 last night and they blew my mind, but still like PJ in concert better! U2 were my favourite band until PJ came along, now that's changed and PJ will always be no. 1 in my eyes. That being said the U2 machine is absolutely phenomenal and their light show was tremendous, music technically very tight and Bono very much a great personality who knows how to work a crowd. That being said I'd still prefer Eddie Vedder over Bono but that's not to take anything away from the latter. Couldn't believe I missed out on seeing PJ and U2 together on stage at Myer Music Bowl, had I had any inkling this was going to happen I'd have been there with my family. Niavely I assumed PJ would be leaving for Sydney on Friday instead of later. Must have been great to see the two bands on stage together. Plenty in the Melb papers about the show, with a great colour photo of Ed and Bono on the front page of yesterday's Herald Sun. What an event!

Give me a break. This reminds me of when live8 was happening, there were people on this board bagging it out, saying it was all for corporate purposes and they were grateful pearl jam were not taking part. get over yourself!! embrace it for what it is, great musicians playing great music for a great cause. pearl jam, bono, bob, you rock, keep it up!

(eddie has been changing the lyrics to rocking in the free world since they began playing it back in 92)

  • PJ has played so many times with U2 why does everyone think they don't get along or like each other, they are ending this whole worldwide tour with them for gods sake...
i thought it was good, bono is a bit of a tool but was still amazing to see them performing toether...

also, mike always (well recently at least) sings in RitFW, on jeff's mic

    ps. pogsmogs

  • There was a pretty big picture in the Irish independant on Saturday of Ed and Bono on stage :) and the headline was something like 'two legends' or 'two stars' or something. I was surprised to see that cos I never usually get that paper.

Wow...I really dig it when people take this stuff so personally. It makes it fun, don't you think? There's nothing like a little controversy in the gas tank; it's good for the soul.
But, to Pogsmogs above, please don't tell me to "get inspired!" or to "do something positive!" You know nothing about me. And if you did, you wouldn't say anything as weak and inaccurate as this crap.
My point was (since you so obviously missed it), the MUSIC... Nothing about corporate purposes (as you so loosely mentioned) or the fact that Ed and Bono are friends or whatever. Those are separate topics. The fact is, musically speaking, that U2 are posers on stage in comparison with Pearl Jam. I mean, just look at all the lights, lasers and props that they NEED to put on a show and make their music interesting! Come on! Actually, because U2 doesn't really do rock music, I shouldn't even be comparing them with Pearl Jam. That's about as bad as trying to compare the greatness of The Stooges to a pathetic band like...Nickelback. Hey, you don't have a Nickelback album, now do you??
After seeing the video of the RITFW performance, I was just disappointed that the raw emotion of the music and words of that song, which always move me when hearing PJ perform it live, was lacking. This, no doubt, was due to Bono's presence and lame lyric changes - and when he finally let loose with "U Jam", I was lost.
Again, his extensive humanitarian work worldwide is to be commended and admired. And I am fully supportive of any benefit to make poverty history; we need more of these actions. But, please leave the stage and the music to Pearl Jam!!
So again, my point was the music...the MUSIC!!
    Thanks.

ps- And please don't tell me to get over myself either. I mean, isn't it enough to list the PJ concerts you've attended? Why must you also inform all of us what row you were in?? Maybe YOU should get over YOURSELF.
  • The best part was Eddie singing he was on the left and Bono on the right...I liked that two opposites...remember Bono was quoted in RS saying he LIKES George Bush!!! How Eddie can tolerate him and Townsend reveal it's got to be for the love of the music.
