Question re GA protocol
a) Legitimately get in line early in the AM;
b) After a couple hours, have someone come relieve him for the day. This person would either be buying his extra 10C ticket or is perhaps just someone that he is going to pay to wait for him;
c) And then come back around an hour or so before the doors open to reclaim his spot in line.
I thought he might be in for an ass kicking, but on further reflection the people behind him wouldn't be any worse off than if he'd been there all day (assuming the line sitter isn't annoying!), since there's still just 2 people claiming that spot in the line.
Is he going to be cool or are people going to block him from coming back somehow? Not sure how that would even be enforced, but anyway...
Thoughts appreciated!

I personally wouldn't have a problem with it especially if you let the people in front and behind you know what was going on and how "cool" they were with it. Beware though there are some elitist around here that would have a fit. If you are around someone like me I would care less as long as you didn't bring a mob back in line with you ha
Ill never forget how douchey some people were to me and my wife at the time at the VIC show when we showed up and were standing by the front of the line just trying to figure out where the line started and ended and how people treated us, so be prepared for all sorts of reactions.0 -
Yeah, I'd be pissed too if one guy held the line for more than himself and one other person!pjalive21 said:I personally wouldn't have a problem with it especially if you let the people in front and behind you know what was going on and how "cool" they were with it. I've read some horror stories from past years of lists, hand markings, and general douchbaggery like you're discussing. I know some people have the opinion that you have to "earn" the rail by slogging through a day of sitting in front of the venue. Not sure it should matter to them as long as they are not any worse off, right?
Anyway, thanks for your input, looking forward to others' thoughts.(1)Vancouver 7/19/98; (2) Seattle 7/22/98; (3) Jones Beach 8/24/2000; (4) Bridge School 10/21/01; (5) Seattle 12/8/02; (6) Denver 4/1/03; (7) Philadelphia 4/28/03; (8) Uniondale 4/30/03; (9) Camden 7/6/03; (10) NY 7/8/03; (11) NY 7/9/03; (12) Boston 9/28/04; (13) Vancouver 9/2/05; (14) LA 7/9/06; (15) LA 7/10/06; (16) Seattle 9/21/09; (17) Seattle 9/22/09; (18) LA 9/30/09; (19) LA 10/1/09; (20) LA 10/6/09; (21) 10/7/09; (22) San Diego 11/21/13; (23) LA 11/24/13; (24) Miami 4/9/16; (25) Seattle 8/8/18; (26) Seattle 8/10/18; (27) San Diego 5/3/22; (28) LA 5/7/22; (29) Zurich 6/23/22; (30) St. Louis 9/18/22; (31) Chicago 9/5/23; (32) Chicago 9/7/23; (33) Vancouver 5/4/24; (34) Vancouver 5/6/24; (35) LA 5/21/24; (36) LA 5/22/24; Berlin x2 2024 (sniff)0 -
Here's the GA section from the Final confirmation e-mail sent out by 10 Club for the 2014 US Tour...
This was for the Cincinnati show, GA entry doors will be different at each venue:
GA Entry Rules and Etiquette:
- All GA ticket holders must enter through the designated GA entry door.
- The GA entry door for this show will be located on the West End of the Arena – Floor Level (Below the Box Office Plaza Level). This door is the fastest and most direct route to the GA floor.
- The GA pit is located in the floor directly in front of the stage, is standing room only, and is first-come-first-served.
- You must have both a GA ticket and an Official Ten Club GA Entry wristband fastened to your wrist to enter the GA Doors. Those two items combined give you GA pit access.
- Your guest does not have to line up at the box office with you. You will be given your two (2) tickets and two (2) Official Ten Club GA Pit wristbands. Immediately put on your wristband and pass the other to your guest to do the same. Put the tickets someplace safe. Do not lose them!
- Removed, broken, fake or tampered with wristbands will not be honored. Lost wristbands will not be replaced, so put them on as soon as you get them. No exceptions.
- The GA line is for members with GA tickets and wristbands only. Members with reserved seated tickets can enter from any other entrance at regular door time.
- The GA entrance has been pre-determined, but is subject to change on the day of the show. This is unlikely to happen, but in the unlikely chance it does, you will be directed to the new entrance via signage and by venue security staff.
- The GA line is first-come, first-served. In the past, fans have used their own fan created numbering system to save a place in line. The numbering system is no longer tolerated. We have seen fans abuse this in the past arriving early to get a number, and then leaving for long expanses of time only to come back at door time and jump in the front of the line. Therefore, anyone participating in this fan created queueing system will be sent to the back of the line. It is the Ten Club’s position that those that put in the time to wait in the GA line all day should be of the first in the door. Anyone abusing this will be sent to the back of the line. Of course it is necessary to take bathroom breaks, or to jump out of line to pick up tickets at will call when the box office opens. Like any other line that you find yourself standing in for long periods of time in your life, simply have your guest hold that place in line for you temporarily, and communicate to your neighbor that you will be right back. They will ask the same in return from you because this is the right thing to do. The GA line should be a friendly community. Be neighborly and respectful and do not abuse the kindness of your fellow Ten Club members.
- Upon entering the venue through the GA entry line, have your GA ticket in hand to be scanned. Hold your arm up showing your wristband in clear view so that security can verify your GA entry credentials and get everyone in the door as safely and efficiently as possible.
- DO NOT RUN! Anyone that enters the venue and starts running will be stopped by security and escorted to the end of the line. We know there’s a lot of excitement and energy that builds while waiting in line, but this is a strict rule. So be safe, have fun, and DO NOT RUN!

My opinion: If you're going to wait in line, wait in line. Don't leave for more than going to the bathroom, getting food etc. It's not cool for one person to hold a spot for more than themselves. It's not a big deal if you're not going for the rail, but if you're showing up that early trying to get in the front row, I firmly believe that you should put in the time. Once there are 100+ people in line, I don't care so much. But that extra person who wasn't in line all day who suddenly shows up to claim their spot could be the difference between someone behind them making the rail or not.

Makes sense. I wonder though, if you had two people holding your two spots in line, how it makes a difference if you sub out one person for another. i understand if one cannot make the line for whatever reasons and needs someone to hold it for them thats reasonable
but it would really tick me off to have to put up with people holding more than just one person
its a big difference with getting the rail or not and people dont need that added crap
and i honestly wouldnt have a bar of it0 -

A lot of people are attending as part of a vacation, seems reasonable if they have the means to pay someone to hold their spot, for them to enjoy the city during the day and come back to the spot they staked out earlier.(1)Vancouver 7/19/98; (2) Seattle 7/22/98; (3) Jones Beach 8/24/2000; (4) Bridge School 10/21/01; (5) Seattle 12/8/02; (6) Denver 4/1/03; (7) Philadelphia 4/28/03; (8) Uniondale 4/30/03; (9) Camden 7/6/03; (10) NY 7/8/03; (11) NY 7/9/03; (12) Boston 9/28/04; (13) Vancouver 9/2/05; (14) LA 7/9/06; (15) LA 7/10/06; (16) Seattle 9/21/09; (17) Seattle 9/22/09; (18) LA 9/30/09; (19) LA 10/1/09; (20) LA 10/6/09; (21) 10/7/09; (22) San Diego 11/21/13; (23) LA 11/24/13; (24) Miami 4/9/16; (25) Seattle 8/8/18; (26) Seattle 8/10/18; (27) San Diego 5/3/22; (28) LA 5/7/22; (29) Zurich 6/23/22; (30) St. Louis 9/18/22; (31) Chicago 9/5/23; (32) Chicago 9/7/23; (33) Vancouver 5/4/24; (34) Vancouver 5/6/24; (35) LA 5/21/24; (36) LA 5/22/24; Berlin x2 2024 (sniff)0 -

I even skipped hanging out with you and Matt for lunch, dinner, Wishlist? Something involving getting food. (Surprise, surprise!) Yes, there are times you need to leave the line. The people around us were cool. They knew that one was in line and the other was either at the bathroom, in will call or the merch line. We all covered each other, but the times were pretty minimal.
My take? If you want it, earn it. Rail was awesome and I don't trade the time I gave for anything in the world.2014: Cincinnati

good to know deaden but it doesnt stipulate whether you can have someone hold you spot for you
possibly bc people do, do it
anyhow thanks good to know for future reference
im glad they cut all ties with the numbering system
that seemed chaos a riot/smash up waiting to happen0 -

If you subbed two for one, you'd better believe I would yell at you if you were within like first 50-75 in line. But someone else might not.
There are no rules, what happens is governed by how the majority around feel. There will always be assholes around trying to take advantage of the situation. The numbers system worked when people didn't abuse it, sucked when people did. No numbers also sucks because large group of people often show up when doors are about to open to try their luck. Sometimes security pays attention, sometimes they don't. All we can do is try our best not to be assholes and watch out for each other. If you're not physically there most of the time then you're not part of the community watching out for each other. That's why I'd be silently judging you.0 -

A lot of people are attending as part of a vacation, seems reasonable if they have the means to pay someone to hold their spot, for them to enjoy the city during the day and come back to the spot they staked out earlier.
- The GA line is for members with GA tickets and wristbands only.
Yes...you did!!deadendp said:I even skipped hanging out with you and Matt for lunch, dinner, Wishlist? Something involving getting food. (Surprise, surprise!) I hung out in line and did what I needed to do to get my spot on the rail.
Yes, there are times you need to leave the line. The people around us were cool. They knew that one was in line and the other was either at the bathroom, in will call or the merch line. We all covered each other, but the times were pretty minimal.
My take? If you want it, earn it. Rail was awesome and I don't trade the time I gave for anything in the world.
Matt & I (LeeAnn was with us too) had GA tickets as well,
but we weren't going for the rail and chose to do other pre-show activities!!
We got in line shortly after doors opened and still ended up about 5 rows back,
between Mike & Ed.
IF you want to enjoy the city during your "vacation,"
maybe enjoy the show from a few rows back,
and give the people who are willing to put in the time to get the rail that opportunity!!
As it's stated in the 10 Club GA Entry Rules and Etiquette:
The GA line is first-come, first-served...
AND
It is the Ten Club’s position that those that put in the time to wait in the GA line all day should be of the first in the door.
I totally agree with this statement...
IF you want it...
