Judging An Album By It's Cover

Have you ever purchased or, conversely, not purchased an album because of its art?

I have this thing about aesthetics and so I'm very partial to putting on display only the cover art in my collection that looks good. I also have a tendency to overlook albums with cover art that just doesn't look as good.

This is apparent in the way I'm gathering my Rush collection. I have all of the albums digitally but was also meaning to get them on cd, vinyl, etc, and what I noticed is that I wanted to buy the "pretty" albums first (Hold Your Fire even though the color red I like least), even though they're not personally my favorites to listen to.

I like the comic imagery the most, one of the main reasons I first got into Iron Maiden & Molly Hatchet album covers.

When I first saw Bowie's Blackstar. Something about the simplicity. Just beautiful.

Black Sabbath self titled. I remember this from my youth, so I just had to have it in my collection now. I bring this one up because just last night I got lost in that album cover.

As a kid I saw Vitalogy at a record shop and was mesmerized by it's simplicity. Finding out it was PJ, and the CD was not released yet, made it even cooler.

I used to look through rows and rows of music to try and find new bands strictly because of the album covers.
That's how I found Meat puppets, Soundgarden, vio lence, soul asylum to name a few.

    The Alice Cooper Show.
Not that good of a live album by Cooper, but I did go back and check out some of his other great studio albums.
